Established in 1987, Exacon Inc. began as the Ventilation Division of Andex Metal Products before evolving into an independent company focused on serving the agricultural industry. As the company continued to grow, Exacon moved into its current 35,000-square-foot facility in Exeter, Ontario in 2000. Today, Exacon manufactures and distributes ventilation, controllers, heating, cooling, feeding, air filtration, and electrical monitoring systems serving agricultural, horticultural, and industrial customers across Canada.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the President as part of the senior leadership team, the Financial Controller will lead all aspects of the finance function while serving as a trusted business partner to the management team.
This role combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on operational involvement and requires a professional who understands the realities of a manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will provide accurate financial information, strengthen internal controls, support operational decision-making, and help guide the organization through its next stage of growth. Depending on the successful candidate's experience and interests, the role may also include Human Resources leadership and broader business administration responsibilities.
For a developing Controller, this role offers a unique opportunity to expand into senior leadership, influence company strategy, and broaden experience beyond traditional accounting responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Leadership
- Lead all accounting and financial reporting activities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Monitor cash flow and working capital performance
- Manage relationships with banks, auditors, insurance providers, and external advisors
- Lead year-end audit preparation and completion
- Develop and maintain effective financial controls and business processes
Manufacturing Finance
- Analyze product costing and manufacturing performance
- Monitor inventory valuation and inventory control processes
- Provide profitability and margin analysis
- Support pricing, capital investment, and operational decisions
- Partner closely with operations, purchasing, and production teams to improve business performance
- Develop key performance indicators and management reporting tools
Business Partnership
- Provide financial insight and recommendations to senior leadership
- Participate in strategic planning initiatives
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and continuous improvement
- Support growth initiatives and business expansion activities
Human Resources (Asset / Potential Growth Opportunity)
Depending on background and organizational needs, the successful candidate may also assist with:
- HR policy administration
- Compensation and benefits oversight
- Employee relations support
- Recruitment coordination
- Performance management processes
- Health and safety administration
- Coordination of external service providers, including IT
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation is preferred
- Strong candidates with equivalent senior controllership experience will be considered
- Minimum 5–8 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience
- Manufacturing finance, cost accounting, inventory management, or operational finance experience
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
- Experience leading month-end and year-end financial processes
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Experience mentoring accounting and administrative staff
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or comparable ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications
Additional Assets
- Human Resources leadership or support experience
- Agricultural, industrial, manufacturing, or distribution industry experience
- Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement exposure
- Experience supporting privately held entrepreneurial organizations
- Exposure to cybersecurity and technology management initiatives

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Expected Compensation May Include:
- Base salary of $120,000 to $165,000

Salary placement will be based on qualifications, manufacturing experience, leadership background, CPA designation, Human Resources experience, and overall fit for the role.
The lower end of the range may be appropriate for an emerging Controller with strong potential and demonstrated leadership capability who is ready to grow into a broader leadership role. The upper end reflects candidates with extensive manufacturing finance experience, CPA credentials, and significant leadership responsibility.
