Course Information

This course explores arts education as an imperative in social development (cultural, economic, health and wellbeing, and civic diversity); and intersections between the arts, education, and society. Students will critically examine philosophical, historical, sociological, research, and practical issues in arts education through written, spoken, and artistic discourse.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.

Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Arts Education, Curriculum Studies, or a closely related field.
Familiarity with Ontario Arts Curriculum (Grades 1-8, 9-10, 11-12).
Ability to confidently lead students through creative process, critical analysis, integrated arts, and arts-based research activities.
Knowledge of assessment & evaluation, differentiated instruction, and inclusive Arts education practices in the Junior/Intermediate/Senior classroom.
A record of effective teaching performance in post-secondary undergraduate education (particularly teacher education), and/or in graduate level courses, particularly Online.
Extensive knowledge of theories and practices related to arts in education, creativity, and arts-based research.
A record of active research related to arts education.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching, or TA-ing for, the prerequisite to this course, EDUC 5488: Pedagogies in Creativity and Arts Integration.

Preferred Qualifications / Assets:

Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification in good standing (current) or within the last five years.
Demonstrated experience and success teaching in the Arts (Dance, Drama, Music, and/or Visual Arts).
Collaborative experience with multi-disciplinary arts teams.
A record of effective teaching performance in Additional Qualifications (AQ courses), and/or facilitating teacher professional learning (e.g., through arts professional associations).
Demonstrated success in mentorship related to arts education and/or teacher education.
Demonstrated success in mentorship related to research (e.g., working on a research team; training Research Assistants; giving workshops related to research).

Course offerings could be assigned to the workload of full-time faculty or to part-time faculty with seniority or preference rights in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, or left unfilled based on operational/enrolment requirements. All positions are subject to budget approval.
