Term of App't: Monday - Friday, 7 hours/day

Start date: Immediately

Reporting to: Manager of Student Recruitment

Salary:

Classification 12, $53,258.26 - $54,905.42 annually, as per the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Annual vacation (119 hours) is pro-rated, and front loaded. We offer competitive extended health and dental benefits (eligible after 6 months of employment). Support Collective Agreement includes time off for family illness, personal illness, and other special leaves. Closure during the Christmas Break (Dec 25 – Jan 1) of each year is additional paid time off. Enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan is mandatory for all regular, full time support staff, with standard contributions matched by the employer.

Description:

Northern Lights College's Recruitment team is looking to hire a student-centered individual who has an extensive understanding of Indigenous student experiences and educational challenges that would be able to promote leadership and mentorship to the Indigenous student body through promotion of opportunities.

The Indigenous Student Recruiter will be the primary recruitment staff member supporting Indigenous communities, events and activities; inspiring and motivating prospective Indigenous students to become qualified and enrolled in Northern Lights College. As the successful candidate, you will promote the College's programs and services through a variety of platforms including face-to-face or virtual appointments, school visits, campus tours, college and community events, Indigenous community visits, Indigenous-focused workshops, and digital communication tactics.

Working closely with the Manager of Student Recruitment and the Director of Indigenous Education, you will support, plan, and implement various internal and external recruitment activities. This role will work alongside the Indigenous Student Navigators to help identify barriers, assist applicants and facilitate connections within the College; as well as with appropriate external community service providers when required.

***There may be a possibility of overtime assigned with the job duties at peak times and for special events.

Qualifications:

Required:

Successful completion of a post-secondary program from a recognized institution.
Familiarity with both the secondary and post-secondary environments; with an understanding of the student's life cycle from admission to the college through to the graduation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an intercultural understanding of non-verbal communication.
Must be able to understand and appreciate cultural diversity among the Indigenous People in Canada.
Outstanding promotional skills, that has the ability to engage prospective Indigenous students and audiences.
Dynamic, energetic personality with excellent public speaking skills.
Previous experience with online/digital recruiting activities such as webinars, slideshows, appointments etc. and the ability to organize effective workshops and presentations for a variety of diverse and different-sized audiences.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize while meeting tight deadlines.
Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, and be collaborative with the team and other stakeholders.
Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to lift and transport display and presentation equipmentmaterials (heavy lifting).
Must be willing to travel and have a current valid Driver's License.

Preference:

Three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Working knowledge and experience with a Student Information System (such as Colleague).
Experience within an Indigenous community or an Indigenous education setting.
Advanced knowledge of Indigenous Peoples and Culture.
