Position Summary
The restorative care aide provides person centered care to residents to promote the comfort, safety, and quality of life of the residents of Finlandia Nursing Home/Finlandia Village. Participates and implements physio and restorative care programs under the training of a certified Physiotherapist. Maintains awareness of changes in the condition or behaviour of residents to modify programs; notifies Director of Therapy Services and nursing staff of observed changes. Address issues with any mobility equipment in a timely manner. Maintains records of initial assessments and programs for each resident and review and updates on a regular basis through Point Click Care. Plans, organizes, and evaluates the physio and restorative programs.
Some Key Responsibilities
· Liaises with the Nursing and Activation Department to structure group and individual restorative programs
· Implement and supervise programs as organized by a qualified therapist (O.T. /P.T.) Implement the structured restorative care programs maintained in the structured restorative care manuals
· Meet on a regular basis with the Director of Life Enrichment if needed to update and report. Meet for monthly activation/restorative care meetings
· Chart when applicable according to guidelines. Update lists including updating working lists with Nursing and Activity. Document daily stats
· Instrumental in promotion of the Restorative Care Programs as part of the resident’s quality of life
· Other duties as assigned by the Director of Life Enrichment
· Adheres to established department policies and procedures regarding quality, assurance, safety, environment, infection control, CPR training and WHMIS
· Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of the Finlandia Nursing Home Health and Safety Manual and associated Provincial Legislation and collective agreements
· Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of Finlandia’s Resident Safety Policies
Qualifications
· Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field or;
· has the appropriate skills knowledge and experience (in place of the identified educational/training requirements) to fulfill the role
· Finnish speaking skill is considered an asset
· An acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check verified within the past six months
· 2-step TB test within the past six months
