Overview
Weaver Simmons LLP is seeking a detail-oriented, and professional individual to join our team as a Legal Assistant. The successful candidate will work within our Criminal Law Department, providing administrative and clerical support in a busy and fast-paced legal environment.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, professional, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Communicate professionally with clients, court staff, Crown offices, police services, legal professionals, and other third parties by telephone, email, and written correspondence.
- Prepare, format, proofread, and organize legal documents, correspondence, affidavits, application materials, disclosure materials, trial briefs, and other court-related documentation.
- Schedule and coordinate court appearances, client meetings, appointments, and deadlines.
- Maintain accurate calendars and track court dates, filing deadlines, and limitation periods.
- Open, maintain, organize, and close client files in accordance with firm procedures and Law Society requirements.
- Perform document management, file maintenance, data entry, scanning, and electronic filing.
- Attend courthouses and government offices as required to file, retrieve, or process court documents.
- Prepare client accounts, invoices, trust statements, and related administrative documentation.
- Assist lawyers with billing, time entry, and file administration.
- Maintain confidential client information and records with the highest level of discretion and professionalism.
- Provide general administrative and clerical support to lawyers and the department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and other office technologies.
- Experience with legal software, including PCLaw, is considered an asset.
- Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
Qualifications
- Legal Assistant Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a legal office is preferred.
- Experience working in Criminal Law is considered a strong asset.
- Completion of a Law Clerk or Paralegal diploma/certificate is considered an asset.

Rate of Pay:
Weaver Simmons LLP welcomes applications from candidates with a wide range of experience levels, including recent graduates and experienced legal assistants.
Compensation for this position starts at $22.00 per hour and will be commensurate with the successful candidate's skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and ability to perform the duties of the role.
