Position Summary
Director of Interprofessional Practice and Education, who oversees strategic oversight of interprofessional practice across nursing and health disciplines, the Centre for Education including Simulation program, Professional Practice Committee (PPC), and operational management of health disciplines specified departments.
Reporting to the Vice-President, Clinical Program and Chief Nursing Executive for all aspects of interprofessional professional practice leadership and operations, the Director of Interprofessional Practice provides strategic and operational oversight to advance high-quality, evidence-based care across nursing and health disciplines (including Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathologist, Registered Dietitians and Recreational Therapy). Leads the Centre for Education and works collaboratively with the Medical Director of Education.
On a practical level, you will
- Leads operational management and performance of the departments of Clinical Nurse Educators, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Registered Dietitians, Spiritual Care and Recreational Therapy.
- Chairs the Professional Practice Committee (PPC) to promote interprofessional clinical care, education, research, and quality improvement.
- Support and lead HHR ministry initiatives, nurse educators, and related senior management functions to address capacity, workflow challenges, and professional development.
- Supports nursing professional practice advancement, education, research, capacity planning, workflow optimization, recruitment/retention, and ministry initiatives, including oversight of nurse educators.
In this role the incumbent:
- Serves as the key clinical bridge between physicians, nurses, health disciplines, Digital health, and executive leadership to ensure digital solutions support safe, high-quality, people-centered care.
- Provides executive oversight for incident response, clinical risk mitigation (including downtime procedures and patient safety events related to health information systems).
- Represents NYG in regional, provincial, university and vendor forums on clinical practice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic guidance to advance interprofessional professional practice, education, and research across nursing and health disciplines within the clinical programs and hospital-wide.
- Oversee operational leadership and performance of the departments of Clinical Nurse Education Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Spiritual Care, and Recreational Therapy, including staffing, budgeting, workflow optimization, recruitment/retention, and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Lead nursing-based ministry initiatives, nurse educators, and related senior management functions to address capacity, workflow challenges, and professional development.
- Chair the Professional Practice Committee (PPC) to promote interprofessional clinical care, education, research, and quality initiatives.
- Provide executive oversight for change management, training programs, and optimization of electronic health records and clinical systems.
- Collaborate on incident management, risk mitigation, and patient safety related to clinical information systems.
- Foster innovation, continuous improvement, and a culture of performance, accountability, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current license in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Nursing, Health Discipline, Informatics, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive management/leadership experience, with recent senior-level involvement in clinical operations, interprofessional practice, or therapeutics oversight.
- Proven track record in collaborative leadership models, aligning interprofessional teams, nursing professional practice, and clinical informatics with organizational strategy.
- Demonstrated success in fostering learning environments, supporting innovation, and driving continuous improvement for high-quality care delivery.
- Established reputation as a consultative, collaborative leader with strong coaching, mentoring, and team-building skills.
- Superior abilities in financial/statistical management, performance accountability, interpersonal relations, change management, oral/written communication, customer service, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Proven critical thinking, sound judgment, and decision-making skills, especially during rapid change or transition, prioritizing patient, family, and staff wellbeing.
- Experience with Lean processes or quality improvement methodologies is an asset
