Full job description

The Tier 1 Educator (RECE) is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children aged 15 months to 4 years. As an educator in the classroom, the RECE is accountable for planning, implementation, and evaluation of a high-quality, play-based program that supports children’s development. Working collaboratively within a team-based setting, the RECE guides and supports team members while ensuring alignment with CRCNCW policies, licensing requirements, and best practices in early learning. This position reports to the Childcare Offsite Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

Child Supervision & Safety

Supervise children at all times, both indoors and outdoors, ensuring their safety and well-being;
Maintain a clean, safe, and engaging environment in accordance with licensing standards and CRCNCW policies;
Ensure all health, safety, and supervision standards are consistently met by all team members;
Monitor and document children’s sleep, nutrition, toileting, and overall well-being;

Program Planning, Implementation & Evaluation

Support planning, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of play-based, developmentally appropriate programming based on children’s interests and developmental needs;
Support individual and team planning meetings to ensure a cohesive and responsive program;
Prepare and oversee materials and resources, including creating and managing shopping lists within an established budget;
Ensure programming aligns with the How Does Learning Happen? framework and CRCNCW philosophy;

Communication & Family Engagement

Establish and maintain ongoing, respectful, and professional relationships with parents/guardians;
Support communication with families regarding children’s development, progress, and any concerns;
Provide daily updates regarding children’s activities, nutrition, rest, and overall experiences (e.g., via Brightwheel or similar platforms);
Support and guide team members in maintaining consistent and professional communication with families;

Documentation & Administration

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records including attendance, daily logs, and developmental observations;
Lead the documentation and assessment of children’s development to inform program planning and support early identification of needs;
Ensure all documentation is completed in accordance with CRCNCW policies, licensing regulations, and the parent handbook;
Complete and submit all incident and accident reports to the Supervisor daily, or immediately depending on severity;
Oversee and support team members in meeting documentation expectations and standards;

Team Leadership & Collaboration

Provide day-to-day guidance, mentorship, and support to non-RECE staff and students;
Delegate tasks and responsibilities as appropriate to ensure effective program delivery;
Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, team meetings, and agency meetings as required;
Collaborate with team members to support children’s development and address any concerns;
Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative team environment;

Reporting & Oversight

Participate in regular check-ins with the Supervisor regarding program updates, child development, and family needs;
Identify and communicate concerns related to children, families, staffing, or program quality in a timely manner;
Ensure compliance with all licensing, regulatory, and organizational requirements within the classroom;
Support administrative staff in maintaining up-to-date child and family records;

Professional Responsibilities

Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities;
Maintain registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators;
Model professionalism, ethical practice, and continuous learning;

Required Qualifications:

Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators, preferred or Director’s Approved Equivalent
Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in licensed childcare (toddler/preschool experience preferred)
Strong knowledge of the How Does Learning Happen? Framework
Experience leading program planning and child development documentation;
Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (within 6 months)
Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
Ability to lift and carry children (up to approximately 40 lbs), bend, sit, and stand for extended periods of time;
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions;
Comfortable working in a busy, active environment with a moderate to high noise level;
Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations, including providing first aid as required;
