About the Role

Royale Floors & Surfaces is looking for an organized and motivated Accounting Technician to join our Halifax team.

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this position will support the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the Company. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience across several areas of accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations and general accounting.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their accounting career who wants to develop practical experience in a growing commercial construction business and take on increasing responsibility as their skills develop.

What You'll Do

Your responsibilities will include:

Enter and process vendor invoices and maintain accurate accounts payable records
Review invoices for appropriate coding, approvals and supporting documentation
Assist with preparation and processing of vendor payments
Enter and review employee timesheets for weekly payroll processing
Assist with payroll administration and maintenance of payroll records
Prepare regular bank and credit card reconciliations
Prepare and post customer invoices, including progress billings and other construction-related billings
Apply customer payments and assist with maintaining accurate accounts receivable records
Assist with customer and vendor account reconciliations
Maintain organized and accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
Assist with month-end accounting procedures and account reconciliations
Assist the Financial Controller with financial reporting, analysis and other accounting projects as required
Communicate with employees, customers and vendors to resolve accounting discrepancies
Support improvements to accounting processes, controls and reporting

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

Post-secondary education in accounting, finance or a related discipline
A strong understanding of basic accounting principles
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Good organizational and time-management skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
A willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility

An accounting degree and/or current progress toward a CPA designation would be considered an asset.

Previous experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations or general accounting would also be considered an asset.

Experience with QuickBooks Desktop or accounting within the construction industry would be an asset, but is not required.

Working directly with the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will have opportunities to develop experience in areas such as:

Month-end and year-end accounting
Financial statement preparation and analysis
Job costing and project accounting
Work-in-progress reporting
Cash flow and working capital management
Payroll and government remittances
Internal controls and process improvement
Financial reporting and analysis

For someone pursuing their CPA designation, the role provides an opportunity to develop practical accounting experience while working directly with an experienced CPA.
