Compensation: Employee will currently be paid an hourly wage of $36.40/per hour, which is the rate that aligns with the terms of the applicable schedule of the current collective agreement in the area for this position. This wage is subject to review and may change in accordance with effective dates as set out in the applicable collective agreement, and subsequent changes to or the implementation of a new collective agreement. The compensation offered may also vary depending on the applicant’s level of experience, qualifications and other factors.
Overtime Pay: Overtime pay (if applicable) will be paid in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, and subsequent changes to or the implementation of a new collective agreement.
Benefits: Employee will receive benefits that align with current union terms, subject to qualifying terms and payments.
Hours of work: Typical work week is 10 hours per day, 6 days per week.

Position Description
The Coating Application Specialist/Bridge Painter will primarily be responsible for providing protective bridge coating applications, utilize coating systems utilized in the bridge painting industry according to specification requirements, complete abrasive blasting and cleaning operations using the company’s state of the art removal equipment, and executing metalizing services safeguards. They will also be responsible for implementing the company’s health and safety programs as it relates to containment activities, as well as rigging and platform installations, with challenging weather conditions, motorist protection requirements, environmental protection and waste disposal factors on a large, complex bridge project.
Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
· Coordinate coating applications and coatings systems utilized in the bridge painting industry based on specification requirements such as: inorganic zinc, organic zinc, epoxies, urethanes, polysiloxanes, moisture cured systems, intumescent coatings on structural steel, concrete coatings and metalizing
· Provide abrasive blasting operations using recyclable and/or expendable blast media using state of the art equipment used by employer
· Install various creative platform and shields within safety standards
· Implement and utilize rigging and platform installation techniques within safety standards, assemble and erect scaffolding and other structures for complex bridge design work
· Implement abrasive blasting and metalizing services safeguards, as applicable
· Conduct containment activities
· Prepare surfaces for protective and restorative coatings using metal finishing tools, machines, metal coating and plating equipment, mechanized painting and paint mixing equipment to precise specifications
· Apply paint, metal coatings and other materials using specialized equipment
· Follow project specifications for quantities and materials application
· Ensure protective coatings are correctly applied, minimize corrosion risk and implement corrosion protection systems
· Identify potential issues in coating applications and maintain quality assurance guidelines
· Administer and follow the company’s health and safety programs
· Ensure the availability, distribution, and maintenance of quality control inspection equipment, personal protective equipment, and protective work clothing
· Coordinate hazardous waste disposal and removal
· Follow agreed upon Environmental Protection Plan, Environmental Monitoring Plan, Hazardous Materials Management Plan, Reduce, Reuse, Recycling and Waste Disposal Plan, Marine Environment Protection Plan, Land-Based Work Plan and Wildlife Management Plan, as applicable
· Follow the Site Specific Safety Plan, Pre-Job Hazard Assessment, Lead (Toxic Metal) Health and Safety Compliance Program, Fire Safety, Prevention, Control and Contingency Plan, and the company’s Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
· Assist with lane closures and traffic diversion and control plans
· Cooperate with local transportation and harbour authorities to ensure project completion
· Manage accurate and comprehensive documentation, as required
To be successful in this role, you need:
Education:
· Completion of secondary (high school) preferred, or equivalent vocational education and experience
Work Experience / Qualifications:
· Previous experience on major bridge rehabilitation and reclamation projects would be an asset.
· Previous experience with abrasive blasting, lead abatement and coating applications on complex structures is preferred.
· Previous experience with coating removal and replacement utilizing abrasive blasting and containment systems is preferred.
· Previous experience with rigging, platform and shield installation techniques within safety standards, assembling and erecting scaffolding and other structures for complex bridge projects is preferred.
· Previous experience with expendable blast media and specialized equipment for surface preparation such as power tool cleaning, water jetting, vapor blasting and vacuum blasting is preferred.
· Previous experience with cleaning operations, coatings systems and application processes.
· Previous experience with site safety plans, quality control processes, and hazard assessments.

Physical Demands:
Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
