The Maintenance Aide reports to the Environmental Services Manager and is expected to perform general, routine maintenance and servicing operations throughout the home, in accordance with applicable codes and regulations.

Wage Rate:

The starting wage rate is $26.91/hour.

Vacancy:

We are hiring employees to work on a casual basis to help us fulfil our scheduling needs and fill vacant shifts as they arise. We are offering flexible hours.

Responsibilities:

As directed and in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, performs a variety of routine maintenance, servicing and repair operations to maintain home, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds in proper condition.
Responsible for effectively scheduling and supervising maintenance and repair work.
Observes and monitors all areas of the home for ongoing maintenance requirements and carries out preventative maintenance programs as directed.
Supervises the Handyperson and Painters, prepares time and work schedules, team member training and performance appraisals.
Performs typical work such as replacing fuses and light bulbs, repairing call bells, clearing drains, repairing beds, chairs, tables, etc., painting and redecorating tasks, replacing tiles, and removing garbage.
Provides general assistance to skilled tradespersons such as mechanics, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, painters, etc., as required.
Conducts regular maintenance rounds to ensure all life safety and building and support systems are functioning properly.
Adheres to established policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, environment, and infection control.
Demonstrates attitudes and beliefs consistent with being person centred.
Participates in committee meetings such as infection control, quality assurance and safety, as required. Establishes and maintains communications with other departments and works cooperatively in carrying out duties to assure the needs of residents are being met.
Maintains required records, reports, statistics, etc., in accordance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
Ensures the privacy of residents during performance of duties.
Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner and assures proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies.
Notifies the Environmental Services Manager of significant building/equipment malfunctions/problems.
Any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

Grade 12 or OSSD certificate is required
Maintenance experience required
Ability to read and write English and follow written instructions
Ability to effectively communicate with residents and team members
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Good understanding of chemical and equipment use
Ability to work independently or as a team member
Ability to remove pre-conceived ideas that limit participation in daily living
Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory reference
