Senior Art Director , Web & UX:About Operatic Agency: :
Operatic Agency isn’t just another creative digital agency—we're a powerhouse of research, strategy, storytelling, and technology that fuels business growth. Named one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies for six years, we bring brands closer to their audiences with bold ideas and cutting-edge executions.
If you’re passionate about transforming ideas into impactful narratives, thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and are eager to make a difference, we want you on our team!
About the Role::
We are seeking a Senior Art Director with deep expertise in website strategy, UX, and digital design to join our creative team.
You are a strategic designer who understands how to turn business goals, audience needs, and brand strategy into thoughtful, compelling digital experiences. You can lead a website from discovery and information architecture through UX, visual design, prototyping, developer handoff, and launch.
This is not a product design role. Our work is primarily brand and marketing-focused, so we are looking for someone who combines strong UX thinking with exceptional visual craft, storytelling and an understanding of how websites move audiences toward action.
You should be equally comfortable thinking through the structure of an experience, designing the interface in Figma, presenting your rationale to a client and working closely with developers to make sure the final build delivers on the vision.
What You’ll Do::
Website Strategy, UX & Figma
- Lead end-to-end website projects from discovery and strategy through UX, visual design, development hand-off, and launch.
- Translate business objectives, audience needs, and brand strategy into clear, compelling website experiences.
- Develop information architecture, sitemaps, user journeys, content hierarchy, wireframes, and responsive interface designs.
- Design accessible, conversion-focused marketing and consumer websites that balance usability with strong brand storytelling and visual craft.
- Build sophisticated, scalable Figma systems using components, variants, variables, auto layout, shared libraries, and reusable patterns.
- Structure Figma files to support efficient collaboration, iteration, developer handoff, and long-term maintenance.
- Create interactive prototypes that clearly communicate responsive behaviour, interactions and intended user experience.
- Establish and maintain Figma standards and best practices that improve how the broader creative team designs websites.
- Collaborate closely with developers to understand technical requirements, solve implementation challenges, and maintain design integrity.
- Perform design reviews and quality assurance throughout development.
Creative Strategy & Direction
- Bring strong art direction and visual thinking to websites, landing pages, and other digital experiences.
- Contribute to project strategy by helping define the audience experience and best approach to solving the client’s challenge.
- Develop moodboards, prototypes and other materials needed to communicate and plan creative work.
- Challenge briefs and proposed solutions when a stronger approach could create a better outcome for the client or audience.
- Use AI tools purposefully to improve research, ideation, visualization, prototyping, production, documentation, and quality assurance.
Ownership & Communication
- Own projects from initial brief through final delivery, proactively identifying risks, dependencies, and opportunities along the way.
- Present website strategies, UX recommendations, and design decisions with clarity, confidence, and a strong rationale.
- Communicate proactively across creative, account, strategy, and development teams, ensuring decisions, expectations, and next steps are clear.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to junior and intermediate team members.
What You’ll Bring::
- 8+ years of experience in a creative, marketing or digital agency environment.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional website design for brands, marketing campaigns, and consumer audiences.
- Significant experience leading website projects from strategy and UX through visual design, development, and launch.
- Expert-level Figma skills are essential for this role.
- Deep experience creating scalable component systems, variants, variables, auto layout, shared libraries, responsive layouts and interactive prototypes.
- Experience structuring complex Figma projects for efficient collaboration between designers, stakeholders, and developers.
- Strong understanding of information architecture, content hierarchy, responsive design, accessibility, usability, and conversion.
- Exceptional visual design skills with a strong understanding of typography, layout, imagery, interaction and brand expression.
- Experience collaborating closely with developers and designing within real-world technical and CMS constraints.
- Solid proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Demonstrated experience using AI to improve the efficiency, exploration, and quality of your creative workflow.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate and defend strategic and design decisions.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented approach to ambiguity, feedback, and changing project requirements.
