JOB SUMMARY: The Cook - Bicentennial reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Child Care Supervisor.
Under the direction of the Child Care Supervisor, the Cook is responsible for maintaining a high-quality childcare program by offering daily menu planning, preparation and serving of nutritious meals/snacks for approximately 100 children as according to Canada’s Food Guide and Early Years Act.
Ensure all kitchen food and cleaning inventories are maintained and documented; and ensuring kitchen work areas and appliances are kept clean and adhere to warranties.
The Cook will comply with Canada’s Food Guide, Child Care Early Years Act, Six Nations Council Employment Policy, Six Nations Council Health and Safety Guidelines, Six Nations Child Care Procedures and Guidelines, and Parent Handbook.

- Will have a certificate in Culinary/Chef or will have two years experience working in the area of quantity food preparation, menu planning and dietary requirements in a commercial/institutional facility.

EARLY YEARS CHILD CARE SERVICES
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Child Care Supervisor.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning daily menus two weeks in advance for the Supervisor’s approval
- Posting current and following week’s menu on Parent’s Bulletin boards and any changes in the menu recorded on posted menus
- Ensuring menu’s meet Canada’s Food Guide is within budget and suits all ages and development of the children
- Following diet restrictions for children according to parent written directions or physician/allergist
- Knowledge of proper food handling, dish washing and sanitizing procedures
- Maintenance and cleaning of kitchen includes appliances, kitchen floors, etc. on a regular and as needed basis to meet health guidelines and general cleanliness.
- Ensure laundry is maintained
- Maintaining recipe book
- Remove garbage daily and sanitize garbage receptacle
- Applying safety procedures and handling emergencies
- Maintain an inventory of supplies and groceries to plan purchases according to the program budget
- Online grocery shopping
- Ensure that frozen preplanned meals are available when kitchen staff are not available
- Preparing and providing nutritious food and beverages that incorporate family and cultural preferences daily
- Completing daily menu log of ingredients used
- Recording and filing recipes for lunches and snacks as required
- Will receive food shipment and ensure checklist of order is completed
- Ensuring food supplies and groceries are stored properly labeled and rotated
- Maintaining a record of repairs to any kitchen appliances
- Ensuring appliances and storage shelves are cleaned on a weekly basis or as necessary to meet health guidelines and general cleanliness
- Submit weekly time sheets
- Attend training/workshops as required
- Assisting in promotion activities/fundraising
- Name tag is required/worn daily for security purposes-if lost/stolen a charge will be required
COMMUNICATIONS & LIAISON
- Try new foods and menu variations
- Identifying to the Supervisor any necessary repairs of appliances
- Working cooperatively with all staff, enhancing relationships with community resources and collaboration with existing programs and services on and off Six Nations of the Grand River communities
- Maintaining confidentiality as per Six Nations Council Employment Policy.
- Greeting children and parents upon arrival and departure
- Maintaining a team approach to resolving such issues, conflicts and problems that may arise in the process of providing support services

OTHER RELATED DUTIES:
Any other related duties as assigned by the Child Care Supervisors which includes, but is not limited to, participation in the Six Nations Emergency Response Plan, Pandemic Plan of Response and the Trauma Events Response Team (TERT).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in an environment subject to heat from ovens and stoves
- Some after-hours participation for staff meetings, parent meetings and other planned activities
- Flexibility working various day shifts

- Encouraged to be limited of what is uploaded to Facebook/Twitter and other cyber sites, which may incriminate the Child Care Working in a climate-controlled environment while on site
