Full job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior System Administrator to join our IT team. The successful candidate will assist in maintaining, supporting, and improving the organization's IT infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in systems administration while gaining hands-on experience with servers, networks, cloud services, and end-user support.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows and/or Linux servers.
Monitor system performance and ensure the availability and reliability of IT infrastructure.
Create, modify, and manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
Provide technical support to end users by troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
Perform routine system maintenance, including software updates, patches, and security enhancements.
Assist with backup and disaster recovery procedures.
Support Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID, and other business applications.
Monitor antivirus, endpoint protection, and security alerts.
Document IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
Maintain inventory of IT hardware, software, and licenses.
Assist with onboarding and offboarding employees, including workstation setup and account provisioning.
Escalate complex technical issues to senior administrators or engineers when appropriate.
Participate in after-hours maintenance or on-call support as required.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Diploma or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
1–2 years of IT support or systems administration experience (co-op or internship experience considered).
Basic understanding of Windows Server and desktop operating systems.
Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
Basic networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, VPNs, and Wi-Fi troubleshooting.
Experience supporting Microsoft 365 applications.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently as well as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.
Familiarity with virtualization technologies, Proxmox is ideal
Basic knowledge of PowerShell or scripting.
Experience with backup software such as Veeam preferred.
Experience with RMM and remote tools.
General knowledge of Relational Databases and Retail support (ERP systems) is ideal
Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified Fundamentals, or similar are an asset.

Working Conditions

Primarily office-based with occasional travel between company locations, if applicable.
May require lifting and installing computer equipment up to 40 lbs (18 kg).
Occasional evening or weekend work for scheduled maintenance or emergency support.
