Job Summary:
Sercon is currently seeking an experienced Pipe Layer / Pipelayer / Underground Utility Installer to join our team. This role is for skilled candidates with 5+ years of recent experience installing underground watermain, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer systems on municipal or civil construction projects.
This is not a general labour position. Proven experience installing underground utilities is required.
Projects may include municipal road reconstruction, subdivision servicing, trunk mains, and related civil infrastructure throughout the GTHA.
Must Have Experience With:
- 5+ years installing underground watermain, storm, and sanitary sewer mains
- Recent experience on municipal / civil construction projects
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, grade sheets, and specifications
- Setting grade using pipe lasers, transit levels, or laser levels
- Daily work around excavators, loaders, and heavy equipment
- Safe trenching, shoring, bedding, backfilling, and compaction practices
Responsibilities
- Install, align, and join pipes and fittings for watermain, storm, and sanitary systems
- Grade trenches accurately using lasers and levels
- Work safely around heavy equipment and assist operators during pipe installation
- Perform bedding, backfilling, and compaction around installed pipe
- Ensure installations meet plans, elevations, and municipal specifications
- Identify and report hazards, deficiencies, or safety concerns
- Work closely with foremen, supervisors, and crew members to complete projects on schedule
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of Pipe Layer / Pipelayer experience in civil or municipal construction
- Strong knowledge of underground utility installation methods
- Experience with materials such as PVC, HDPE, ductile iron, concrete pipe considered an asset
- Strong understanding of trench safety and excavation procedures
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Reliable, team-oriented, and safety focused
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
