Full job description

The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner and according to authority level and established guidelines and participate in special projects having an impact on the business. Assigned larger and more important agents/brokers. Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. Understand state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within assigned territory to properly transact business within each state. Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language; appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions. Assist with resolving premium audit disputes within assigned agents/brokers. Able to provide coaching to others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Underwrite and service a portfolio which includes E&O, EPL, ML coverages for professional service firms (primarily law firms, accounting firms, and consulting firms) as well as cyber.
Negotiate with brokers on program structure, premiums, retentions and terms and conditions.
Understand and analyze the applicable exposures of insureds, including financial stability, risk management posture, and cyber hygiene.
Analyze coverage and contract language based on industry accepted policy forms.
Take lead role in client/underwriter meetings (in-person or remotely) to quantify and assess insurance risks and exposures.
Maintain up-to-date familiarity with economic and legal events impacting the portfolio and the overall insurance industry.
Meet outlined objectives related to quote/binder turnaround, policy issuance, renewal management, file maintenance and documentation.
Cross-sell to existing customers through the promotion of the Company’s products and services.
Participate on projects having an impact on the business and actively keep knowledge and skills up to date through courses and seminars where appropriate.

Technical Skills, Knowledge and/or Experience:

5 years’ experience in professional liability; a recent focus on E&O, EPL, ML and/or cyber product lines strongly preferred.
Experience with industry accepted policy forms and working knowledge of applicable wordings.
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
Desire and ability to enhance Markel’s position in the Bermuda professional liability marketplace through external engagement and a strong customer service focus.
Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate while developing positive broker relationships.
Strong analytical and organizational skills and excellent problem solving/decision making abilities.
Strong work ethic. Must be a team player and able to work independently as needed.
