Full job description

Dietary Aide

Mission

Reporting to the Director of Culinary Services/Dietary Manager, the Dietary Aide provides support in the setup, preparation, serving, and cleanup associated with all meal services in the Residence/Home.

Key Responsibilities

Serve meals to residents and guests in a professional and courteous manner
Assist in the setup and preparation of various items such as beverages, salads, desserts, etc.
Set and clear dining tables and deliver tray service as required
Clean dishware and cutlery at the conclusion of each seating, as required
Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining area
Assist with catering and actively participate in special occasions and theme events
Support the orientation and training of new dietary employees
Follow and comply with health and safety legislation and departmental safe job procedures
Comply with all provincial regulations and established department policies and procedures
Respect and promote Resident Rights & Responsibilities
Attend in-service training as required to better serve residents’ needs
Attend staff meetings to stay informed of changes within the Residence
Participate in the Quality Improvement Program
Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents)
Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy, particularly ethics, morality, and integrity, as outlined in Extendicare’s Code of Conduct
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Must possess a Food Handler’s Certificate
Previous experience in the food service industry and working with seniors is preferred
Must possess or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Training Program
Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
Physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand/walk for the majority of the shift
Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset
Must provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
