Job Overview
If you are a respected and forward looking leader who is motivated by shaping the future of housing in Kamloops, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact. The Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation (KCLTF) is seeking an Executive Director who thrives in a strategic and collaborative environment. You bring strong relationship building skills and are comfortable engaging with industry, government officials, and community partners. Your leadership style builds trust, aligns diverse perspectives, and delivers results. With experience leading organizations through change, influencing policy, and translating strategy into action, you are well positioned to strengthen the KCLTF’s role as a trusted voice for housing.

The Executive Director will lead the foundational growth of the KCLTF. This is a "hands-on" leadership role where the Executive Director will manage the organization from high-level strategic partnerships to day-to-day administrative tasks. The focus is on real estate acquisition, housing development, asset management with the goal of establishing a sustainable operating model for the KCLTF and for provision of housing specifically for low-to-moderate income households

Duties

Organization Management and Financial Responsibility

Work with the Board to develop and amend bylaws, policies and a three-year business plan.

In collaboration with the Board develops and monitors an annual budget and provides overall management of the fiscal operations of the KCLTF.

Ensures the preparation of cash flow projections.

Ensures regulation evaluation and reporting of budget results.

Ensures that systems are in place for effective financial management and fundraising/donor management.

Ensures Board and staff compliance with all internal policies and procedures, legal requirements, and financial standards.

Staff and Board Leadership

Serves as staff liaison to the Board of Directors, including preparing materials for meetings, attending or staffing Board committees, and assisting with special projects.

Recruits, orients, trains, motivates, evaluates, and recognizes staff and Board members for their service.

Ensures professional development opportunities for self and staff.

Creates a positive working environment.

Planning

Assists the Board in setting the organization’s strategic direction through the development and implementation of a strategic plan, donor plan, and communications plan.

Works with the Board to establish goals and strategies.

Performs and oversees the work in the tactical plan.

Monitors, tracks and reports progress towards tactical plan KPI’s

Donor Development and Strategic Partnerships

Cultivates and stewards major donor prospects, including individuals, corporations, and private family foundations.

Act as the primary liaison with the City of Kamloops, BC Housing, and CMHC to secure land transfers and startup capital.

Lead aggressive grant writing efforts through provincial/federal streams to build an initial capital reserve.

Real Estate Development

Identify and evaluate potential land acquisitions

Manage multi-phase housing developments, from initial feasibility and rezoning processes to construction completion.

Community Advocacy and Communications

Represent KCLTF in the community to build trust and educate partners and interested parties on the "at-arm's length" land trust model.

Develop and promote branding, social media presence and regular communications to educate and inform the community of the purpose and work of the KCLTF.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree in Urban Planning & Community Development,

Real Estate Management, Business Administration, or Finance.

Experience: Minimum 5+ years in non-profit leadership, urban planning, or housing and land development. Previous experience in a startup environment or with a land trust is highly desirable.

Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Kamloops real estate market, BC's Business Corporations Act, and the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act.

Skills:

Expertise in financial modeling for affordable housing.
Proven ability to navigate local municipal planning and zoning.
Strong interpersonal skills for building a "community-owned and controlled" culture.

Experience managing multi-phase developments, from initial feasibility to construction completion.

Understanding how boards of directors and various not-for-profit housing models function.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary Range: $130,000 to $150,000 with flexibility based on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Compensation: Includes eligibility for a performance bonus as part of the annual review process, extended health benefits, and vacation.

Pay: $130,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
