Job Overview
Excel Personnel is recruiting an Accounting Technician / Junior Accountant for a growing transportation and logistics company in Kamloops.
This is a broad, hands-on accounting role for someone who has developed a solid foundation through industry or public-practice experience and is ready to take on greater responsibility. You will work closely with the Controller and gain experience across the full accounting cycle, including AP, AR, collections, payroll, reconciliations, month-end reporting and financial analysis.
The position offers excellent long-term potential to grow into a senior accounting role and potentially assume leadership of the accounting department.

Responsibilities
- Support full-cycle accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections and general ledger entries
- Complete bank reconciliations for Canadian- and U.S.-dollar accounts
- Process supplier invoices and prepare electronic payment runs
- Monitor outstanding receivables and professionally follow up on overdue accounts
- Reconcile revenue, expense and balance sheet accounts
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies
- Process biweekly payroll and monthly bonus plans
- Prepare and file GST returns
- Prepare month-end working papers and financial statements
- Assist with year-end working papers and information for external accountants
- Prepare financial and operational reports using Microsoft Excel
- Process customer credit applications and maintain supporting documentation
- Respond to inquiries from customers, suppliers, carriers and internal team members
- Maintain accurate and confidential financial records
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and reporting
- Provide support across the accounting department as required
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in accounting from a recognized post-secondary institution
- At least one to two years of relevant accounting experience
- Full-cycle accounting experience or previous experience with a public accounting firm
- Practical experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, reconciliations and month-end processes
- Working knowledge of accounting principles
- Ability to prepare accurate working papers and supporting schedules
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
- Confidence using Word, Outlook and shared electronic files
- Strong attention to detail, organization and follow-through
- Professional communication skills, including confidence handling collection conversations
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Legally entitled to work in Canada on a permanent basis without employer sponsorship
Assets
- Experience processing payroll
- Experience preparing GST returns, financial statements or year-end working papers
- Experience with QuickBooks, Sage 50 or similar accounting software
- Experience with CaseWare, tax software or other public-practice accounting tools
- Experience in transportation, logistics or another fast-paced operating environment
