City: Kamloops
Reports To: Director of Facilities and Asset Planning
Employment: Full-Time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Wage Range: $25.95 up to $29.76 based on education and related experience.

Position Summary: As a Maintenance Technician, you will work alongside the ASK Wellness Society Property Services Department to complete repairs related to buildings and grounds in one or more areas such as repairs, electrical, plumbing, painting, and groundskeeping. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and responsibly, adhering to all health and safety guidelines. Service delivery is based on a client-centered, trauma-informed and non-judgmental perspective.

Specific Responsibilities:

Establishes, monitors, and carries out preventative maintenance procedures and schedules for buildings, equipment, and grounds. Ensures building and equipment meet all safety, security, and fire regulations and policies.
Make recommendations for major repairs and purchases to the Director of Property Services and Asset Management.
Perform carpentry, minor electrical, painting, mechanical, and minor plumbing maintenance and repairs such as repairing items of furniture, constructing shelves, installing switches, replacing plugs, and other basic appliance repairs.
Complete tasks such as but not limited to applying paint and other finishes, installation and repairing drywall, disassembling and reassembling equipment, and replacing sinks and toilets.
Monitor work performed by contractors, prepare estimates of labour, and material costs to submit to Property Services.
Collect and remove garbage and recyclable materials and ensure safe disposal.
Clean external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks and parking lots using manual and power brooms, rakes, shovels, and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow, and other refuse.
Perform minor gardening and lawn maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and watering.
Transport equipment, furniture, and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts.
Prepare and restore interior and exterior surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, patching drywall, caulking, pressure washing, and protecting surrounding areas to ensure high-quality finishes.
Apply paint, varnish, stain, epoxy, and other coatings to walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and exterior surfaces, including matching and mixing paints to achieve required colours and finishes.
Maintain safe and clean work environments by inspecting completed work for quality assurance, performing touch-ups as needed, and maintaining painting tools and equipment in good working condition.
Operate a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies.
Represent the maintenance department at Society Safety Meetings when requested.
When requested, be a member of the Society’s Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) team.
Complete and maintain maintenance logs and work orders on a daily basis.
Complete security incident reports when required.
Maintain files and statistics as per accreditation standards.
Complete move-in/move-out documentation as required by the Property Services Department.
Ensure compliance with all Society policies and procedures.
Other duties which may or may not be outlined within this job description.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Grade 12, plus related vocational training such as a building maintenance course is an asset.
One (1) year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required.
Knowledge of mental health/addiction and homelessness is an asset.
Ability to adapt to time-sensitive situations.
Understands and maintains professional boundaries.
Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and reliable/appropriate transportation with business use coverage.
Must pass an acceptable criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
Basic First Aid is an asset.
Readiness to complete in-house online training within the first month of employment.
Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, and Trauma Informed Practice an asset.
