Full job description

Overview

IDC / BCANDS is searching for an outgoing, dynamic, creative and team orientated person to play the lead role in the coordination, planning and delivery for our 2026 National Indigenous Disability and Wellness Gathering.

In conjunction, consultation and under the direction of the IDC / BCANDS senior team, the IDC / BCANDS 2026 Gathering Coordinator will be the lead on, but not limited to:

- Developing the Gathering agenda

- Promotion of the Gathering

- Developing Gathering content, including sessions, panels and presentations and in consultation with IDC / BCANDS and other partner agencies

- Obtaining key note speakers, presenters and panelists

- Recording registered delegates and vendors including the collection and verification of payment of registration fees

- Coordination with Gathering Venue staff ensuring setup, audio visual, meals and refreshments, etc.

- Obtainment and coordination of disability related accommodations as required

- Coordinating onsite delegate / vendor registration and pre conference set up

- Updating the Gathering social media and website as required

- Work with hotels and other service providers to obtain best rates for delegates / vendors, prizes and other amenities

- Coordination of Gathering promotional materials

- Onsite coordination and trouble shooting during Gathering, assisting with delegate, vendor and speakers needs to ensure their satisfaction including the development of session and Gathering surveys

- Obtainment and coordination of volunteers as needed

- Review expenditures as they relate to Gathering budget

- Final written report on the Gathering, outcomes and recommendations to consider for suture events for future events

- Other duties as required

The Gathering Coordinator is responsible to work as part of the IDC / BCANDS team.

DESIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with Indigenous organizations / communities as part of a team

Understanding of Indigenous issues in Canada

Understanding of Disability

Experience in non-profit setting, working as part of a team

Certification in event planning, marketing, sales, business, or tourism would be an asset

Extraordinary multi-tasker who is detail-oriented, extremely organized, personable and fun

Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team, and also be self-directed while working independently

Possess the ability to imagine the realm of possibilities and confidence and drive to achieve them

Ability to work with a variety of people in an inclusive and respectful manner

Strong technical ability with diverse communications, engagement including social media

Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines while being adaptable

Strong writing ability and communication skills

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF CONTRACTED EMPLOYMENT:

Start Date - July 15, 2026 or sooner

End Date – November 30, 2026

Compensation rate: $35 per hour, 35 hours a week – Contract - No Benefits

Typical hours of work with be Monday through Friday – 8:30 – 3:30 pm – (Flexibility of hours will be required as needed and during the 2026 Gathering)

Use of own vehicle is required - Valid Driver’s License

The Gathering Coordinator Contract Position will work out on the IDC / BCANDS main office or Ottawa Office

Pay: $35.00 per hour
