We are seeking an experienced Civil Superintendent to provide field leadership on multiple active and upcoming heavy civil construction projects. This is a hands-on leadership role for a construction professional who takes pride in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality projects from start-up through completion.
Travel to project sites throughout British Columbia and beyond may be required.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to Senior Management, the Civil Superintendent is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and execution of civil construction projects. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
Projects include underground utilities, mass grading, subdivision development, roadworks, rock excavation, and related civil infrastructure on projects ranging from municipal developments to large-scale private civil works.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide overall site leadership, supervising and coordinating field crews, subcontractors, and equipment resources
- Plan, develop, and actively manage project schedules to meet production targets and contractual milestones
- Monitor daily production, quantities, and costs; identify risks and implement corrective actions to maintain budget and schedule
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts to ensure accurate execution of work
- Oversee site logistics, sequencing, and resource allocation to maximize efficiency and productivity
- Ensure all work meets quality standards, engineering requirements, and client expectations
- Lead site safety by enforcing company safety programs, OH&S regulations, and promoting a strong safety culture
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and site-specific requirements in BC
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, consultants, clients, and municipal representatives
- Manage site documentation including daily reports, quantities, timekeeping approvals, and change management tracking
- Identify, document, and support pricing of change orders, extras, and claims
- Lead site meetings and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders
- Proactively resolve site issues, conflicts, and unforeseen conditions
- Mentor, train, and develop field staff, forepersons, and operators
- Participate in project planning, pre-construction, and job start-up activities (including locates, permits, and site setup)
- Work closely with Project Managers to forecast labour, equipment, materials, and production requirements.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure contractual obligations are achieved.
- Review survey layouts and grades to ensure construction accuracy.
- Support estimating and project teams by providing field input on productivity, scheduling, and constructability.
- Maintain positive working relationships with owners, consultants, municipalities, utility providers, and the public.
- Promote a respectful, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
- Maintain accountability for site performance, including productivity, quality, safety, and profitability
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Gold Seal Certification (Superintendent) or actively working toward designation is considered an asset
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in a superintendent or senior supervisory role in civil construction
- Strong background in earthworks, underground utilities (water, sewer, storm), and site development
- Solid understanding of civil drawings, specifications, and municipal standards within BC
- Proven ability to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices
- Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with heavy civil equipment operations is considered an asset
- Experience with GPS machine control, survey layout, or Trimble/Topcon systems is considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- OFA Level 1 (or higher), CSTS, WHMIS, Ground Disturbance Level II, or other safety certifications are considered assets
- Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Okanagan and other regions of British Columbia is considered an asset
Compensation
Competitive hourly compensation of $40–$50 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, leadership capability, and project experience.
