The Association of Interior REALTORS® is a member-driven organization representing approximately 2,600 REALTORS® throughout British Columbia's Interior. As one of the province's largest real estate associations, we support our members through advocacy, professional development, industry leadership, and exceptional member services.
We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Director, Government Relations & Communications to lead the Association's advocacy, communications, stakeholder relations, and public affairs initiatives. This role serves as a key advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors and plays an important role in advancing the Association's strategic priorities with government, industry, media, and community stakeholders.
This is a full-time hybrid position based in Kelowna, BC. The successful candidate will be expected to work both remotely and from the Association's office, with occasional travel and attendance at meetings or events outside regular business hours.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director, Government Relations & Communications provides leadership for the Association's government relations, advocacy, communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement functions.
The Director develops and implements integrated strategies that strengthen the Association's reputation, support public policy objectives, build stakeholder relationships, and advance member interests. This is a non-partisan role focused on advocacy, public affairs, and stakeholder engagement in support of the Association's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic advice to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership on government relations, public policy, communications, and emerging issues.
- Develop and implement government relations, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and communications strategies.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with municipal, provincial, and federal government representatives, industry partners, regulatory bodies, and community stakeholders.
- Monitor legislative, regulatory, and policy developments and provide analysis and recommendations regarding potential impacts on the Association and its members.
- Represent the Association in meetings, consultations, and industry forums.
- Lead advocacy initiatives that support the Association's strategic priorities.
- Oversee media relations, issues management, crisis communications, and reputation management activities.
- Develop executive communications, briefing notes, presentations, speeches, correspondence, and board materials.
- Ensure compliance with applicable lobbying registration and reporting requirements.
- Lead stakeholder consultation and engagement initiatives.
- Develop and monitor departmental goals, performance measures, budgets, and operational plans.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop team members while fostering a collaborative and accountable workplace culture.
- Undertake special projects and other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum five years of progressive leadership experience in government relations, public affairs, communications, policy development, stakeholder engagement, or related fields.
- Experience developing and implementing advocacy, communications, or government relations strategies.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Experience building relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.
Preferred
- Master's degree in a related discipline.
- Experience working within a membership-based, regulatory, professional, association, government, or not-for-profit environment.
