Full job description

It is acknowledged that Central Okanagan Public Schools operates within the unceded, Traditional Territory of the Okanagan syilx peoples. The School District enrolls over 25,000 students (including approximately 3,200 students who self-identify as having First Nations, Metis, and/or Inuit ancestry from Canada). Central Okanagan Public Schools is located in the Central Okanagan encompassing the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country. There are a total of 50 school sites with 32 Elementary Schools, 8 Middle schools, 5 Secondary Schools, 3 Learning Centres, an Alternate Education School, and an Online Learning School (K-12). SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER

We offer flexible hours and ample time off including summer and winter/spring breaks.

These positions will work in a team environment to facilitate language expression and comprehension using American Sign Language, tutor students, adapt teaching materials, compile and update student records, and monitor student behaviour.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful completion of Grade 12
Graduate of an accredited interpreter training program
Previous experience interpreting in an educational setting an asset
At least six (6) months experience working with Deaf students with language delays
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Willing to work collaboratively as a member of the IEP (Individual Education Program) team
Consideration will be given to candidates who are also fluent in ASL-French language interpreting

These casual and/or 10-month permanent positions (27.5hrs / week) offer a wage rate of $48.00 per hour as well as a comprehensive benefits plan, including extended health and dental care, and participation in Municipal Pension Plan.

Successful applicants will be required to complete the District's Health & Safety training and consent to a Criminal Record Check.
