Faculty/School: School of Biological Sciences and Applied Chemistry
Program: Biotechnology Degree (Primary) and Biotechnology Diploma
Campuses: Seneca @York

Anticipated start date: Fall 2026. Start date may be adjusted based on the completion of the recruitment process.

Responsible for providing academic leadership in the classroom and ensuring an effective and compelling learning environment for students.

Teaching Excellence:

Engage students with course objectives, delivery approaches, and evaluation methods to promote active learning.
Deliver courses across in-person, format using inclusive and evidence-based teaching practices.
Integrate laboratory-based learning and applied scientific techniques to enhance student outcomes.
Support students through academic advising, mentoring, and individualized feedback.
Foster an engaging learning environment enriched by real-world applications and current scientific practices.

Course and Curriculum Development:

Design and update curriculum aligned with current developments in biotechnology and molecular sciences.
Develop assessments that reflect diverse learning styles and applied competencies.
Collaborate with program leadership and industry stakeholders to ensure program relevance.
Contribute to program quality through curriculum review and continuous improvement initiatives.
Select and develop learning materials reflecting current research and industry practices.

Academic Leadership:

Contribute to academic planning and program development.
Participate in applied research and industry engagement activities.
Support departmental collaboration and mentorship.
Stay current in emerging scientific trends.

What you bring to Seneca

PhD in Biology, Immunology, Virology, Biochemistry, Bio-organic Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or related field.
3–5 years of relevant laboratory experience post-credential completion.
Post-secondary teaching experience.
Strong communication skills and ability to engage diverse learners.
Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and academic excellence.
Experience in course and curriculum development considered an asset.
Industry engagement or applied research experience in a relevant field considered an asset.
Demonstrated ability to stay current with advancements in biotechnology and related disciplines considered an asset.

Note: A teaching demonstration will be required during the recruitment process.

Consideration will be given to qualified internal full-time academic and partial-load employees first in accordance with the Collective Agreement requirements. New employees will be required to demonstrate the Faculty Basic Competencies by the end of their probationary period.

The compensation step will be determined based on receiving and verifying relevant formal education through official transcripts and relevant work experience, in accordance with the salary placement calculation process.
