Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on, results-driven Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, you will be the driving force behind process optimization, standardizing our manufacturing processes, and scaling our manufacturing capabilities.
Your mission is simple: Eliminate inefficiencies, reduce scrap and rework, and improve throughput. You will achieve this by establishing robust manufacturing standards, designing custom fixtures, monitoring and sourcing tooling, and managing targeted small capital improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
Standardization, SOPs & Training Support
- Establish & Maintain Standards: Create, update, and maintain comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manufacturing standards for all coil assembly and component manufacturing.
- Support Training: Ensure all SOPs are structured to serve as clear, actionable training tools for floor operators to ensure consistency, quality, and safety across shifts.
Tooling, Fixturing & Equipment Optimization
- Tooling Management: Actively monitor tooling requirements across the production floor. Assess wear-and-tear, anticipate needs, and ensure operators have the precise tools required for daily production.
- Sourcing & Procurement: Obtain vendor quotes, evaluate supplier capabilities, and prepare technical purchase requisitions for new tooling, spare parts, or equipment components.
- Fixture Design: Conceptualize, design, and implement custom fixtures, jigs, and work-holding devices to optimize setup times, reduce operator fatigue, and ensure high-precision coil assembly.
- Equipment Optimization: Fine-tune existing machinery to maximize uptime and improve cycle times.
Continuous Improvement, Quality & Throughput
- Root Cause Analysis: Lead troubleshooting efforts and perform structured root-cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams) to permanently resolve quality, process, and production issues.
- Scrap & Rework Reduction: Implement targeted corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to minimize material scrap and costly rework.
- Process & Cycle Time Optimization: Analyze workflows and eliminate bottlenecks to optimize cycle times, streamline material flow, and improve overall throughput.
- KPI Tracking: Track, analyze, and report on key manufacturing metrics (KPIs) such as cycle times, scrap rates, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) to guide decision-making.
Capital & Project Management
- Capital Improvements: Lead small-to-medium capital improvement projects (CapEx) from concept to execution, including equipment justification, layout planning, installation, and commissioning.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Experience: 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. Direct experience in HVAC coil fabrication (fin-and-tube, brazing, expansion) is highly preferred.
- Procurement Savvy: Experience sourcing industrial tooling, obtaining competitive vendor quotes, and navigating purchase requisition processes.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor) for designing custom fixtures and floor layouts.
- Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping).
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to run root-cause analysis on the manufacturing floor and implement permeant corrective actions.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with floor operators, vendors, and executive leadership (Director of Operations).
