Fundraising & Communications Coordinator
Position Summary
The Fundraising & Communications Coordinator plays a central role in advancing the mission of Home Base Housing through integrated fundraising, communications, and project development. This position is responsible not only for securing funding and managing communications, but also for designing fundable programs with senior management staff, developing project frameworks, and coordinating special initiatives from concept through to implementation.
The role requires a high level of autonomy, strategic thinking, and cross-functional collaboration, supporting both organizational growth and prioritizing initiatives that deliver impactful, client-centered services.
Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising, Grant Development & Program Design
● Lead the development of grant applications, including concept creation, program design, and full proposal writing
● Translate organizational needs into fundable projects, including defining scope, outcomes, and implementation plans
● Develop detailed project budgets aligned with funding requirements and organizational capacity
● Identify and pursue new funding opportunities across foundation, government, and corporate sectors
● Prepare supporting materials including cases for support, letters of intent, and funding proposals
● Ensure all submissions align with strategic priorities and reflect trauma-informed, client-centered approaches
Special Projects & Project Management
● Lead and manage special projects and capital-related initiatives from concept to execution
● Develop and oversee project timelines, deliverables, and implementation plans
● Coordinate across departments to ensure alignment between program delivery, communications, and funding requirements
● Monitor progress of funded projects and ensure reporting obligations and outcomes are met
● Support the development of new initiatives by structuring ideas into clear, actionable project frameworks
Communications & Strategic Storytelling
● Develop compelling, human-centered messaging that communicates the impact of homelessness services
● Write and edit a wide range of materials including:
○ Grant applications
○ Donor communications
○ Community impact reports
○ Annual General Meeting (AGM) reports
○ Presentations and campaign materials
○ Advertisements Digital and Radio
● Translate complex program data into accessible, emotionally resonant narratives
● Maintain consistency in voice, tone, and brand across all communications
Fundraising Committee & Campaign Support
● Support the Fundraising Committee in the development and execution of fundraising strategies
● Create marketing and campaign materials to promote initiatives and increase community engagement
● Assist in planning and coordinating fundraising campaigns and donor outreach efforts
● Provide administrative and strategic support to committee activities and priorities
Community Engagement & Partnerships
● Build and maintain relationships with community partners, funders, and stakeholders
● Collaborate with partners on joint funding opportunities and service delivery initiatives
● Strengthen partnerships to support integrated and community-based responses to homelessness
● Represent the organization in meetings, presentations, and community engagements
Event Coordination & Donor Engagement
● Plan and coordinate fundraising events, donor engagement opportunities, and community initiatives
● Manage logistics, communications, and materials for events
● Support tours, presentations, and engagement opportunities for donors and partners
Reporting, Evaluation & Organizational Communications
● Develop and produce community impact reports and funder reports
● Lead the creation of AGM materials and organizational reporting documents
● Track and organize project and funding data to support reporting and evaluation
● Ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with organizational messaging in all reporting outputs

● Financial Acumen in Nonprofit Funding Strong ability to develop and align detailed project budgets with funding requirements and organizational capacity
● Project Leadership & Multi-Project Coordination Ability to independently manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing timelines, deliverables, and competing priorities
● Strategic Program Design & Fund Development Capacity to translate organizational needs into fundable programs with defined scope, outcomes, and implementation frameworks
● Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Development Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with funders, community partners, and collaborators to strengthen funding opportunities and service delivery
● Independent Judgment & Initiative Demonstrates strong decision-making, ownership, and the ability to move complex work forward with minimal direction
● Systems Thinking & Organizational Alignment Ability to ensure fundraising, communications, and project development efforts align with broader organizational strategy and priorities
Qualifications & Experience
● Postsecondary education in communications, nonprofit management, fundraising, public relations, social services, business, project management, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and experience
● Demonstrated experience in fundraising, grant writing, communications, project coordination, or nonprofit development
● Proven track record of successfully acquiring funding for not-for-profit initiatives through grants, sponsorships, donations, or community partnerships
● Strong experience developing project budgets and financial documents aligned with funding requirements
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, including budget development and tracking
● Experience writing compelling proposals, reports, presentations, and public-facing communications materials
● Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
● Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration across teams and partnerships
● Understanding of trauma-informed, client-centered communication approaches is considered a strong asset
This role operates with a high degree of independence and is expected to translate organizational priorities into fundable and implementable initiatives
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: $56,133.00-$68,917.00 per year
