PLC / Robotic Programmer

ABOUT CMP AUTOMATION:

CMP Automation is a medium sized, vertically integrated manufacturer of turnkey automation equipment, providing custom manufacturing automation solutions to various industries. Since 1988, we have primarily supplied the automotive industry, in North America and overseas, specializing in small diameter tubing automation.

CMP is considered a leading OEM in the automotive tubing industry, specializing in machine automation for small diameter tubing.

CMP’s strong team of designers and machine builders has a long history in the specialized field of small diameter tube bending as well as broader automation. With our vertically integrated business model, CMP has become an industry leader in several additional areas of specialization. These include Automotive Seat Assembly Pallets, and Nylon Tube Automation for the EV market.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Set-up, machine, fit and assemble component parts and precision tooling to build automation machinery. Also, as required based on project size, co-ordinate the activities of a support group of toolmakers in the building and assembly of mechanical assemblies and tooling.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of an experienced Control System Designer, develop real-time control system software for automated assembly systems, including the programming of PLC’s, Servo Controllers, Robots & Vision Systems.
Develop human machine interfaces using commercially available industrial products, SCADA nodes or custom GUI’s written in Visual Basic or Visual C++.
Work with mechanical and electrical designers to ensure the control system will meet performance, reliability and functionality requirements.
Perform on site commissioning and startup by demonstrating system’s capability once the equipment has been shipped to the customer’s site.
Design PLC programs specific to customer and project requirements based on standard CMP programming methods.
Debug and commissions PLC programs on our shop floor during systems integration stage and then on the customers site during installation.
Work with other members of the control systems design department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced cost.
Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems to provide the customer with a complete functional system.
Provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify PLC program completeness.
Provide accurate documentation for each project.
Inform customer project personnel regarding documentation and advise them on solving technical problems.
Provide customer training specific to their current project and write up technical operating manuals ie: machine operation, programming principles, and program structure.
Adhere to all CMP Health and Safety rules and procedures.

None.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

Must have five years programming experience (Omron, AB, Fanuc, Motoman).
