Role description:
Arcadis Professional Services (Canada) Inc. (Arcadis) is seeking an experienced O&M Remediation Environmental Field Technician / Technologist to join our Resilience team in Waterloo, ON. The position is based out of our Waterloo, ON office.
This role sits within the Global Resilience Business Area and supports local remediation and environmental projects. The successful candidate will coordinate and execute tasks assigned by Project Managers related to the delivery of environmental projects, with a primary focus on the operation and maintenance of large groundwater remediation and treatment system.
Responsibilities will include oversight of operation and maintenance activities for groundwater remediation treatment systems, completion of routine and scheduled system inspections, performance of preventative maintenance and part replacements, and execution of groundwater compliance sampling and ongoing monitoring programs. The technician will be responsible for identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues associated with treatment system performance. The role also requires oversight of compliance monitoring activities to ensure systems are operating in accordance with regulatory approvals and project requirements.
Additionally, the successful candidate will support environmental site assessments, risk assessments, and remediation projects. This may include conducting site visits and inspections, monitoring and supervising drilling and remediation activities, preparing field notes, collecting soil and groundwater samples, supporting data tabulation, and contributing to the preparation of environmental reports.
Approximately 20% occasional travel to project sites within Ontario may be required, with opportunities for travel across Canada as needed to support project delivery.
Role accountabilities:
- Resourceful and able to solve problems in the field, including experience with operations and maintenance of remediation treatment systems and associated mechanics and plumbing.
- Strong understanding of field protocols including soil, groundwater, and vapour sampling. and overseeing drilling activities and subcontractor management.
- Maintain knowledge and familiarity with provincial and federal regulatory frameworks (i.e., O.Reg.153).
- Diligent interpretation of environmental data, including maintaining excellent field notes, safety forms, daily field reports, and laboratory forms.
- Comparison of sample results to applicable guidelines and standards.
- Strong adherence to health and safety standards and policies.
- Preparation of reports documenting the results of inspection and/or investigation programs.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with regulators, stakeholders, and internal Arcadis staff. A valid driver’s license and reliable access to a personal vehicle are required. Candidates should be mechanically inclined, with strong attention to detail and accuracy, and demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years’ experience in maintaining remediation/treatment systems, field sampling or site investigation experience, and subcontractor management.

The salary range for this position is $58,000-87,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
