Full job description

Millcreek Management Inc. is a Business Management firm that manages Condominium properties and other small businesses throughout Southern Ontario, with its main office in Cambridge, Ontario.

We are currently looking to fill the role of Senior Accountant!

We are searching for a reliable, dedicated, solution oriented team player to join our team. The ideal candidate would be someone who loves to keep bullet proof records and books and who can handle tasks assigned by upper management, work synergistically with other team members, comply with company regulations, and be a good brand ambassador for Millcreek at all times. To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate passion and dedication to excellent records and reporting along with insight and solutions for and to management and be able to communicate effectively at all levels and escalate issues appropriately. The successful candidate will have a strong command over WIP, Cost of goods. Payroll, cashflow management, progress billing, and regular balance sheet reconciliation etc.

The Senior Accountant position is responsible for the accounting, payroll and bookkeeping of operations of the Company, its subsidiaries, and clientele, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The senior accountant is responsible for working with outside tax accountants and auditors to complete year ends.

This position reports to the Operations Manager and President of the Company.

The scope of the Senior Accountant position includes the following:

Management

1. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures

2. Manage outsourced functions

3. Perform and ensure the full accounting cycle is being completed for the Companies.

4. Maintain banking relationships

5. Represent the company with financial institutions, professionals, etc.

6. Coordinating and attending to the bank when required to make transactions, i.e., deposits, account setup, drafts, signatures, etc.

Transactions

1. Ensure that accounts payable/receivable are dealt with promptly

2. Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable

3. Ensure that accounts receivable is collected promptly

4. All fees are processed promptly

5. Ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed

7. Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis

8. Maintain the chart of accounts

9. Maintain an orderly accounting filing system

10. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions

11. Implement operational best practices.

12. Perform full cycle accounting and bookkeeping functions.

Reporting

1. Issue timely, accurate and complete financial statements, and

distribute them as required.

2. Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual review and audit reports and liaison with the auditor(s) to complete the audit(s)

3. Recommend and implement benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations

4. Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics

5. Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts

6. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management

7. Provide a system of management cost reports

8. Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for cashflows, comparative revenue and expense, balance sheets, and additional financial reports as may be required.

Compliance

1. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit

2. Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants

3. Comply with local, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Additional Accountabilities:

1. Other tasks that may arise from time to time.

REQUIREMENTS:

An accounting designation such as CPA, CA, CGA, CMA or CPA certificate or another designation are preferred, however not compulsory.
5+ years of accounting experience, post schooling.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Excellent computer skills with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook, Sage, or other accounting software.
Keeping current with the accounting industry and its guidelines through CE courses etc.
Be able to obtain all regulatory requirements regarding licensing for this role.
