DATA ANALYST
Production Intelligence & AI-Enabled Process Innovation
Are you a recent graduate who wants to do real technical work - analytics, automation, applied AI - inside a business where you can see exactly how your work changes outcomes? This is a role for someone who wants to learn how a business actually runs, then build the systems that make it run better.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Bio-Ag is in the middle of a multi-year digital transformation. We are modernizing the systems behind our manufacturing operations, building better tools for production planning and customer support, and exploring practical applications of AI across the business. We need a Data Analyst to help turn ideas into working systems.
This is not a reporting role. It is a hands-on, technical role at the intersection of data analysis, automation, and applied AI. The Data Analyst will sit close to operations on purpose: you cannot meaningfully improve a process you do not understand. Operational fluency is the foundation; innovation is what it enables.
HOW THE ROLE GROWS OVER 12 MONTHS
We expect the role to evolve in three overlapping phases. The same person does all three.
Phase 1 - Ground Truth (Months 1-3)
Embed in day-to-day operations: sales order processing, customer service calls, AP entry, daily reporting, audit support. The objective is not to do these tasks long-term - it is to understand them deeply enough to redesign them. By the end of this phase, you will know where the friction is, where the data lives, and what "good" looks like for each process.
Phase 2 - Diagnosis & Quick Wins (Months 3-6)
Translate operational fluency into measurable improvements. Automate the highest-friction daily reports. Stand up Power BI dashboards that replace manual workbooks. Identify the first two or three processes ready for full automation, and quantify the opportunity.
Phase 3 - Innovation Delivery (Months 6-12)
Contribute to the company's core innovation projects: production planning analytics, connecting our business systems to the plant floor, applied AI prototypes, and financial modeling. Ship work that production, sales, and operations decisions actually run on.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operational Foundation (significant in early months, scaling down over time)Sales Order Processing - Produce sales orders accurately; learn the order-to-cash cycle from the inside.
- Customer Service - Field customer calls professionally; develop direct insight into customer needs and product questions.
- Daily Reporting - Run, review, and progressively automate daily operational reports.
- Accounts Payable Support - Assist with AP entry; identify and implement automation opportunities.
- Audit Support - Assist with internal and external audits, document preparation, and audit-ready process implementation.
- Analytics & Process Improvement (growing through the year)Data Analysis & Reporting - Build management reports that surface trends and drive decisions, not just describe history.
- Process Automation & Workflow Optimization - Identify operational inefficiencies; design and implement automation using the right tool - Power Automate, Python scripts, Power BI, or Copilot, depending on fit.
- Data Visualization - Create reports and dashboards for research, management, and non-technical audiences.
- Strategic Research & Reporting - Conduct research on strategic topics, synthesize data from multiple sources, draft reports.
- Innovation Projects (core focus by mid-year)Production & Raw Materials Planning - Build analytical models that help us plan production runs and time raw materials purchasing more effectively.
- ERP Analytics - Develop reporting and dashboards on top of our ERP system; partner with operations to drive measurable improvement in how orders flow through the business.
- Systems Integration - Support the connection between our business systems and our plant-floor controls; help with data mapping and validation.
- Cash Flow & Financial Analytics - Help maintain and extend our rolling cash flow model with live data; build tools to support capital and inventory decisions.
- Software Modernization - Contribute to the rebuild of our proprietary formulation software, including requirements, data modeling, and testing.
- Applied AI Projects - Prototype and evaluate practical AI use cases - including Microsoft 365 Copilot, internal Q&A tools, and process automation.
- Shopify Website Maintenance - Maintain product pages, collections, and content on the company website.
MENTORSHIP & GROWTH
This role is supported by a structured three-tier mentorship model. You will not be figuring it out alone.
- President & Owner - Strategic mentorship on business context, innovation priorities, and how analytical work connects to commercial outcomes. Direct exposure to executive-level decision-making.
- Vice President - Hands-on technical mentorship on data architecture, systems integration, and applied AI experimentation.
- HR - Day-to-day supervision, performance feedback cadence, HR support, and integration into the broader team.
By the end of 12 months, you will have built marketable, in-demand skills in: ERP analytics (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central), BI and dashboard development (Power BI), programming for data work (Python, SQL), applied AI (Microsoft 365 Copilot, prompt design, evaluation methods), systems integration, and business analysis spanning operations, finance, and supply chain.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Recent graduate - University degree or college diploma in data science, computer science, statistics, business analytics, agriculture/biosystems with analytics focus, or a related field.
- Technical foundation - Proficiency in Power BI and at least one programming language (Python preferred; C++ or others welcome). Comfort with SQL and Excel.
- Microsoft ecosystem familiarity - Outlook, Excel, Word; bonus for any exposure to Power Automate, Copilot, or Dynamics 365.
- Analytical mindset - Curiosity about how things work; willingness to ask "why" five times before building a solution.
- Strong communication - Able to explain technical work to non-technical audiences; clear writing.
- Time management & attention to detail - Comfortable juggling multiple workstreams across operations and innovation projects.
- Integrity & strong work ethic - Family-business culture; reliability matters.
- On-site, with personal transportation - No public transit access available.
- Comfortable in a manufacturing environment - Occasional time on the plant floor is part of the role.
