Construction Manager 1 - City of Vancouver

Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds C03

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid

Annual salary: $ 109,700.00 - 138,700.00

What you'll do

Be assigned to support the West End and East Vancouver Substation projects

Directs and supervises a multidiscipline group of BC Hydro Construction officers, support staff and/or external consultants

in the fields of construction management, contract management and commissioning.

Ensures that all aspects of construction work and associated activities related to assigned projects is planned in

accordance with BC Hydro's PPM Practices and is carried out effectively in terms of safety, quality, schedule, cost and
scope.

Provides leadership and ensures compliance with safety requirements.

Works with the Construction Manager 2 to ensure adequate resources are in place to meet multi-year project and program

plans.

Provides technical guidance and facilitates appropriate technical/constructability reviews and oversight for projects as

required.

Assists in the development of business unit objectives, customer needs, and performance measurements.

Assists in managing the departments operational performance to meet objectives.

Conducts Constructability Reviews for projects throughout various stages in the project life-cycle.

Provides input to and reviews contract tender documents with respect to scope and risk.

Provides input to the public consultation process as it pertains to construction site activities and issues.

May act as "Hydro's Representative", Hydro Representative Delegate and/or Work Package Manager on a portfolio of

construction contracts.

Manages construction and equipment installation contracts, ensures the successful completion of the contract work in

compliance with the contract milestones and responsible to verify and prepare documentation for payment.

What you bring

7 years of progressively more responsible and complex experience managing high performance construction teams in a

Construction Management environment.

Extensive experience managing contracts, negotiating work changes, claims and managing contract disputes.

High school graduation plus additional technical training in the electrical, mechanical and/or civil field(s) equivalent to a

partial university degree in engineering or graduation from a technical institute. Extensive on-the-job experience &training,
without a formal degree or diploma, may also be considered.

Demonstrated knowledge in construction methods and procedures in the electrical utility environment specially related to

Transmission and/or Distribution Line installation, refurbishment or removal.

Demonstrated organization, project planning and people management skills.

Knowledge of Contracting principles, health & safety and environmental regulations relevant to utility construction.

Ability to manage a project or series of projects of considerable scope and complexity on time and within budget.

Ability to relate and discuss issues with a range of professionals, including trades people and senior management.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Considerable technical knowledge in civil, structural, mechanical and/or electrical work.

The ability and passion to provide strong work leadership and technical direction to engineers or other technical support

staff.

A strong understanding of Transmission Distribution System Operations (TDSO) requirements, Outage Staging Plan
requirements and development, will be considered an asset for the position.

A valid driver's license is required.

The following will be considered an asset in addition to the above for this position; Experience in pre-construction planning

and procurement, underground transmission line experience in downtown Vancouver and high voltage equipment
installation and testing for indoor substations.

Experience in pre-construction planning, procurement development, underground lines construction and high voltage
substation experience will be considered an asset.
