As an Electrical and Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in the instrumentation and control of our pharmaceutical and laboratory washer-disinfectors. You will be at the forefront of innovation, evaluating, designing, developing, testing, and documenting customized solutions tailored to our customers’ needs, while also contributing to the continuous improvement of our existing products. This is a Full-Time/Permanent and Hybrid position in our site in Beauport, QC.

What You'll do as an Electrical and Automation Engineer at STERIS

Programming & Controls

Develop and program software for Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs, while supporting customers with the integration of their SCADA systems.
Work with electromechanical interfaces and high-power components such as heating elements and pumps.

Electrical Design

Design electrical schematics for control panels that meet customer requirements.
Ensure compliance with applicable electrical and machine safety standards across North America and Europe.

Prototyping & Testing

Conduct simulations and rigorous testing to validate system performance and reliability.

Analysis & Optimization

Evaluate customer needs and existing system performance.
Recommend innovative solutions and provide cost and timeline estimates.

Problem Solving

Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to electrical, automation, and control systems.

Documentation & Reporting

Prepare operator and maintenance manuals, technical reports, and design specifications.

Technology Monitoring

Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend state-of-the-art solutions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate closely with engineers from multiple disciplines as well as customers to ensure seamless system integration.
Work with several internal stakeholders, including Procurement, Manufacturing, and Marketing teams.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
6 to 9 years of relevant experience in the design and implementation of electrical and automation systems.
Proficiency with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and industrial programming languages.
Excellent proficiency in French and functional proficiency in English.
Ability to work collaboratively to solve complex problems, communicate effectively, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and interact professionally with customers.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of quality and accuracy.

Assets:

Experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms is considered an asset.
Knowledge of CAD software and simulation tools such as ePlan and AutoCAD is also an asset.
Familiarity with electrical standards and safety regulations (UL, CSA, CE) would be advantageous.
