POSITION OVERVIEW:
Are you passionate about inspiring youth, building community, and sharing your love for active and social recreation opportunities? The City of Maple Ridge is seeking Recreation Leader 3s to join our Youth Services Team. Whether leading drop-in or registered programs, you’ll be hands-on with various activities by providing leadership, instruction, and support for youth aged 13 to 18 years.
Our two-level Youth Centre features specialized spaces for action sports, rock climbing, socializing, and creativity. We are seeking individuals with a background or interest in skateboarding, scootering, climbing, podcasting/media, or other social recreation activities. Training will be provided; however, preference will be given to candidates with existing skills or experience in these areas.
In This Role You Will:
- Provide instruction and support for a variety of social and recreational programs and activities, including but not limited to skateboarding, rock climbing, media/STEAM programs, sports, and/or art.
- Ensure the safety and supervision of youth participants in a drop-in Youth Centre environment.
- Monitor and correct participant behaviour and enforce rules and policies.
- Promote interest and encourage participation in program activities.
- Monitor the facility and equipment for safety, security, and maintenance requirements.
- Assist in providing information and appropriate referrals to youth.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction for preschool, children, youth and adults.
- Working knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing work and of modern office methods and procedures.
- Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction for clients with varying abilities.
- Ability to participate in planning and implementing programs and activities and to provide leadership and instruction on same.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with program participants, parents and external agencies.
- Ability to assist in leadership of volunteers and junior level staff.
- Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by post-secondary courses related to the work, plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C.
