Position Requirements
(if you do not have all of these, but demonstrate you are a good fit for the position, Arcus may be able assist you to acquire some of these requirements):
- Grade 12 education
- Community Support Worker Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of experience in community social services/health care, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal & written) with team members, professionals, families, and community members
- Experience with supporting individuals with high or challenging behaviours and require behavior supports
- Non-verbal communication skills
- Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid/CPR Level C and Food Safe certificates
- Restricted class 4 driver’s licence (for Full-Time positions)
- Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence at minimum
- Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
- Criminal record clearance for children and vulnerable adults
- TB Test
- Moderate computer literacy
- Eligibility to work in Canada
- 3 references (2 professional + 1 additional)
The Ideal Applicant:
- Experience supporting individuals with complex or challenging behaviours, including self-injurious behaviours
- Experience following behavioural support plans, safety plans, protocols, and structured routines
- Experience and comfort providing full personal care and hygiene support
- Experience and understanding of developmental disabilities, mental health, and challenging behaviours
- Ability to remain calm, consistent, and responsive during behavioural escalation or crisis situations
- Ability to encourage independence while providing the appropriate level of support
- Ability to support walks, community outings, and recreational activities
Ex. long walks and swimming
- Ability to establish rapport while maintaining clear and firm professional boundaries
- Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Hiring Process
- In-Person Screening – An initial in-person screening, including an English proficiency test.
- Online Interview – Candidates who successfully complete the screening will be invited to an online interview. The interview will include questions about your experience working in this field, your skills, and your experience supporting individuals with complex needs.
- Second In-Person Interview – Successful candidates from the online interview will be invited to a second in-person interview.
