Job OVERVIEW
The Field Service Technician at Coast Spas Lifestyles is a hands-on technical role responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing hot tubs and swim spas at customer locations across the Lower Mainland. As the face of the service team in the field, this role requires a high degree of technical proficiency across all major spa systems — including heaters, pumps, packs, plumbing, and electrical — combined with strong customer communication and on-site accountability.
The successful technician works independently, and is trusted to represent Coast Spas Lifestyles professionally on every visit. They complete same-day documentation, collect payment in the field, and identify parts and repair needs accurately before and during each service call
KEY ACCOUNTABILITES
Technical Service & Repairs
- Perform on-site diagnostics on hot tub and swim spa systems — heaters, pumps, packs, circuit boards, topside controls, plumbing, jets, diverters, and electrical components
- Replace heater elements, flow switches, pressure switches, and unions — verify correct operation before leaving site
- Rebuild or replace pump wet ends; diagnose and replace full pump assemblies including motor, impeller, and seal kit
- Diagnose and resolve breaker tripping issues using sequential component isolation; distinguish between GFCI faults and thermal overload conditions
- Replace and configure spa packs and circuit boards (Balboa, Gecko, and equivalent); label and reconnect all wiring correctly
- Replace and resize topside control panels, including cutting acrylic shell openings with appropriate tools to fit new units
- Locate and repair leaks through visual inspection, dye testing, and pressure testing; excavate foam insulation safely to access plumbing and restore foam seal after repair
- Repair and replace PVC plumbing fittings, unions, manifolds, flex hose, and barb connections using correct primer, cement, and cure procedures
- Replace jets (directional, pulsating, rotating, eyeball), jet bodies, and diverter valves and O-rings
- Replace cabinet panels and corner caps; cut panels to fit where required
- Service filter canisters: clean, replace cartridges, and service O-rings with correct silicone lubricant
- Perform complete tune-up and inspection services including water chemistry, filter service, jet testing, component inspection, and written report delivery to customer
Water Chemistry & Chemical Maintenance
- Test and balance water chemistry on every applicable service call: free chlorine (1–3 ppm), pH (7.2–7.8), total alkalinity (80–120 ppm), calcium hardness (150–250 ppm)
- Advise customers on weekly maintenance schedules and correct chemical dosing
- Identify water issues (cloudiness, foaming, scaling, staining) and recommend appropriate treatment
Field Administration & Documentation
- Review job tickets in Airtable before each call; pre-identify likely parts required and load van accordingly
- Complete detailed service notes in Airtable on-site or same day: symptoms, diagnosis, parts used, labour time, test results, and photos
- Collect payment in the field using Shopify POS for in-person transactions; send invoice payment links for remote or deferred payments — all resolved before leaving the property
- Obtain customer sign-off on all completed work before leaving the site
- Communicate repair needs and cost estimates clearly to customers and obtain approval before proceeding
Van & Inventory Management
- Maintain a fully stocked, organized service vehicle with tools, PPE, and standard parts inventory
- Restock van daily against master inventory list; report shortages to the Service Coordinator
- Assist with inventory tracking, cycle counts, and year-end inventory as required
- Inspect and report all vehicle maintenance issues on a regular basis; maintain a safe driving record
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience in hot tub, swim spa, HVAC, plumbing, or related mechanical/electrical trade (combination of experience and demonstrated technical aptitude considered)
- Demonstrable ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems independently
- Familiarity with hot tub or pool systems, PVC plumbing, or 240V electrical an advantage
- Valid BC driver's licence and clean driving record — required
