Position Summary
Reporting to the Continuous Improvement Manager, the Quality Control Inspector is responsible to ensure Presteve’s products meet company and regulatory standards. The QC Inspector will monitor processing operations, conduct product inspections, and enforce food safety and quality guidelines throughout the production process.
Job Responsibilities:
Production Management: Execute production tasks in alignment with company standards and industry regulations. Oversee quality control to ensure adherence to production specifications and food safety practices. Ensure cutting lines are set up 30mins prior to the start of the shift.
Yield Optimization & Performance Management: Emphasis on yield performance as a top priority by supervising fish cutters and the yield live as it happens to ensure maximum efficiency and quality. Included continuous monitoring and analysis of yield data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Staff Training & Development: Focused on training programs that enhance the skills of fish cutters, specifically aimed at maximizing yield and minimizing waste. Added ongoing coaching and mentorship to ensure continuous improvement in cutting accuracy and efficiency.
Performance Oversight: Supervise fish cutters to meet quality and yield targets. Utilize data to drive performance improvements and address any performance issues effectively.
Resource Efficiency: Specified optimizing resource utilization to achieve maximum yield from each product, with a focus on managing material orders and coordinating preventative maintenance to minimize waste.
Technology & ERP Integration: Develop proficiency in internal ERP (Nav) for interpreting orders, transfers, and other key processes. Troubleshoot RF scan guns and adapt to new automation systems and software. Ensure lines are running as required with efficiencies and all weights being monitored constantly for accuracy. Start up and shut down of all lines as needed ensuring scales are calibrated daily for accuracy. Report any maintenance issues as they arise with the upmost urgency.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols and providing necessary protective equipment. Comply with all safety regulations and internal policies and procedures. Ensure lot code continuity and all internal traceability measures are maintained.
Team Coordination: Foster effective communication across departments, promote teamwork, and implement strategies to enhance employee engagement and performance. Provide coverage for supervisory roles as needed. Ensure changeovers are handled correctly and machines are emptied and ready to go. Daily reconciliation of input and output of fish by SKU, cut, Lake etc. to be reported out the broader group using the Marelec Software program as part of a daily shift notes report. Collaborate with Trim line supervisors and Receiving Manager as needed for scheduling.
Reporting & Administration: Focus on generating detailed production reports to track yield performance and key metrics, with an emphasis on continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility. Reports include but are not limited to;
o Daily Shift Notes to include the following
o All input and output fish for the day
o Any safety concerns noted
o Any mechanical failure resulting in downtown
o Weekly reports for overall input and output and yield by cut and species via email
o Weekly reporting of individual cutter performance via email
Hands-On Production Support: Engaged directly in production activities with a focus on optimizing yield and quality at every step. Drive back any defects, yield drops, performance chances live to cutters as needed.
Additional Duties: Perform additional tasks including inspecting, packing, scaling, grading, and processing fish as necessary. Perform QC checks as needed regarding quality of cuts and provide active feedback/ kick back of fillets requiring fixing.
Qualifications and Experience:
● 3-5 years in previous leadership role.
● High School Education, GED, or equivalent.
● Must have a valid G class (at minimum) license.
● Highly proficient in Microsoft Office.
● Leadership and team management skills.
● Ability to problem solve in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
● Working knowledge of technical software that is specific to the industry.
● Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
● Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
● Ability to problem solve and make decisions.
● Previous knowledge and expertise within the industry considered an asset.
Work Conditions and Physical Abilities:
● Exposed to a cold and wet environment.
● Exposure to odors and noise.
● Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
● Must be able to bend, lift and twist.
● Must be able to meet the demands of the job
● Must be able to lifts up to 50lbs.
