Restaurant General Manager

Par & Pour | Edmonton, Alberta

Overview

Par & Pour is seeking an experienced, energetic, and hospitality-driven Restaurant General Manager to lead our restaurant, bar, lounge, and banquet operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences while maintaining strong operational, financial, and service standards. The General Manager will oversee daily restaurant operations, lead and develop the team, manage banquet and private event execution, control labour and operating costs, and work closely with culinary, golf, sales, and events teams.

The ideal candidate is a strong floor leader who understands premium hospitality, can manage a high-volume operation, and is equally comfortable overseeing regular restaurant service and executing large private events.

Duties & Responsibilities

Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of Par & Pour's restaurant, bar, lounge, and banquet/event spaces.
Maintain exceptional hospitality and service standards throughout the entire venue.
Recruit, interview, onboard, train, schedule, coach, and develop front-of-house employees.
Provide hands-on leadership during service, ensuring managers and team members are positioned effectively based on business volumes.
Manage the banquet and private event room, ensuring events are properly planned, staffed, set up, executed, and closed.
Work closely with the Sales & Events Manager on corporate meetings, private dining, celebrations, receptions, tournaments, and other group events.
Review event details and BEOs to ensure appropriate staffing, room setup, food & beverage requirements, timing, and guest expectations are communicated to all departments.
Coordinate with the culinary team to ensure efficient service, food quality, presentation, timing, and consistency.
Oversee bar and beverage operations, including service standards, inventory controls, responsible alcohol service, and beverage quality.
Manage labour costs through effective scheduling, productivity management, and appropriate staffing levels.
Monitor food and beverage costs, operating expenses, waste, discounts, voids, and other controllable expenses.
Monitor daily sales and operational performance and identify opportunities to improve revenue and profitability.
Oversee POS procedures, cash handling, deposits, end-of-day reconciliation, and appropriate financial controls.
Manage inventory procedures and work with leadership to maintain appropriate food, beverage, and operating supply levels.
Maintain compliance with Alberta Health Services requirements, food safety standards, ProServe requirements, occupational health and safety standards, and company policies.
Conduct regular pre-shift meetings and communicate daily priorities, reservations, VIP guests, events, promotions, and operational updates.
Handle guest concerns professionally and promptly, taking ownership of service recovery when required.
Build relationships with regular guests, members, corporate clients, and event organizers.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Golf to ensure restaurant and golf operations provide a seamless guest experience.
Work with the Sales & Events team to maximize banquet, corporate, private event, and group business opportunities.
Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, organization, and overall presentation of all guest-facing areas.
Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed accurately and consistently.
Establish and maintain SOPs, training standards, checklists, and accountability systems throughout the operation.
Participate in management meetings and contribute to revenue-building initiatives, promotions, events, and overall business strategy.
Lead by example and create a professional, respectful, accountable, and hospitality-focused workplace culture.

Requirements

Minimum 3–5 years of restaurant management experience, preferably in a high-volume, upscale casual, premium restaurant, hotel, entertainment, or hospitality environment.
Previous General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, or comparable senior restaurant leadership experience is strongly preferred.
Banquet, private event, or catering operations experience is strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of restaurant financial performance, including labour costs, food costs, beverage costs, inventory, budgeting, and operating expenses.
Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, coach, motivate, and hold teams accountable.
Strong knowledge of restaurant and bar operations.
Experience with POS systems and restaurant technology.
Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Strong guest-service mindset with the ability to resolve concerns professionally.
Knowledge of Alberta food safety, liquor service, and workplace safety requirements.
ProServe certification is required or must be obtained prior to commencing applicable duties.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Ability to remain organized and composed while managing multiple areas of a busy operation.
