Program Information
A 24-hour Crisis Response and Recovery program that ensures people who experience a mental health crisis can access required interventions to address the crisis and promote long-term recovery. Through a suite of pre-and post support and education, individuals have access to services that support their unique circumstances, while building their skills and resilience for success.
Position Summary
Working as an interdisciplinary team member this position provides crisis intervention, de-escalation, and stabilization services while connecting individuals and families to appropriate long-term supports.
Scheduled hours of Work
Hours of Work: Full–Time Shift work – 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, 4:30 pm – 01:00 am, 01:00 – 8:00 am
Location: Mobile in Community, Lethbridge, AB
Start Date: Immediately
Reporting to: Team Lead
Wage: Starting – Full Time - $22.00 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct mental status and self-harm assessments for individuals who require such an assessment
- Complete initial telephone or face to face screening of crisis referrals to determine the level of risk, clinical need and if an emergency mental status assessment or other urgent intervention is needed
- Actively and creatively engage service users and caregivers in encouraging them to make appropriate use of the mental health, addiction and other support services as part of a process of recovery
- Where an immediate response is not appropriate individuals will be referred on to mental health, addiction services or other agencies if required
- Foster and maintain close links with other professionals and agencies working with clients, both inside and outside the mental health and addiction services
- Leverage collaboration with community agencies in order to provide coordinated wrap around supports
- Maintain high standards of client care, ensure that client individuality and dignity is maintained at all times, while promoting client independence
- Maintain accurate written and electronic records, including individual care plans made in conjunction with the client wherever practicable and ensuring confidentiality of information at all times
- Maintain open and harmonious communications within the team, as well as with other CMHA programs to promote multi-disciplinary and coordinated approaches to care.
- Provide information and support to caregivers and families where appropriate.
- Reduce the impact of social and emotional crisis on individuals, family and community members
- Prevent unnecessary hospitalization
- Increase the likelihood that an individual will be able to remain in the community
- Provide education and support to the clients accessing the program
- Responsible for connecting individuals with complex needs to appropriate services
- Help navigate the system of care so individuals can find the right services and support
- Help make connections between the individual supported and social workers, mental health workers, school boards, income assistance workers, police, probation officers, and other community and government agencies
Qualifications:
- Working towards a University degree or college diploma (or equivalent) in Human Services, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Child and Youth Care or other related field or three years demonstrated experience working with the target population preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of mental illness and addiction
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources
- Demonstrated crisis intervention and stabilization techniques
- Demonstrated community development skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to be readily mobile in the community (own vehicle a requirement)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong knowledge of issues facing individuals with complex needs
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with social support agencies and professionals an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources is essential
- Demonstrated time management and multi-tasking skills
- Experience and enthusiasm working for a non-profit organization
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training an asset
- Suicide Intervention training an asset
Conditions of Employment:
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Current (within 6 months of hire) and clear Criminal Reference Check
- Current (within 6 months of hire) and clear Youth Intervention check
- Use of reliable vehicle for work purposes and Valid Driver’s License
Pay: From $22.00 per hour
