Your Opportunity:

Are you ready to take the next step in your leadership journey? As the South Zone Rural Clinical Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to lead and develop a team of laboratory professionals while influencing the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. This role offers a unique blend of people leadership, operational oversight, quality improvement, and strategic involvement within one of Alberta's largest healthcare environments. Working in partnership with the Laboratory Manager and technical leaders, you will build your leadership expertise through workforce planning, staff development, human resource management, change leadership, and operational decision-making. You will play a key role in fostering a positive and engaged workplace culture, supporting innovation, leading quality and safety initiatives, and driving continuous improvement across laboratory services. This position is ideal for a laboratory professional who is passionate about developing people, leading change, and making a meaningful impact on patient care while advancing their leadership career within Alberta Precision Laboratories.

Description:

Reporting to the South Zone Rural Laboratory Manager, the Clinical Supervisor provides day-to-day operational leadership to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of clinical laboratory services. The role is accountable for staff supervision and development, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, attendance management, employee relations, conflict resolution, investigations, payroll and e-People functions, and the application of human resource policies and collective agreements. The Clinical Supervisor supports a culture of accountability, collaboration, employee engagement, and continuous improvement while ensuring the effective utilization of human, financial, and operational resources. Working closely with Site and Department Laboratory Technical Leaders, the incumbent is responsible for operational decision-making, workforce planning, scheduling, and achieving departmental, site, and organizational objectives. The role supports Laboratory Services' Quality Management System through accreditation activities, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards. The Clinical Supervisor also provides leadership for projects, process improvements, and the implementation of new technologies, methodologies, equipment, and tests. Using advanced problem-solving and change management skills, the incumbent identifies opportunities for improvement, implements best practices, and contributes to strategic planning and service excellence in support of high-quality patient care.

Required Qualifications:

Formal education in a laboratory healthcare discipline (e.g., Medical Laboratory Technologist, Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologist, Medical Laboratory Assistant, or related field). A minimum of five (5) years of progressive laboratory experience in a complex healthcare environment, with demonstrated knowledge of laboratory operations, quality systems, and accreditation standards. Current supervisory experience in a healthcare setting, including responsibility for staff supervision, coaching/performance management, attendance management, and employee relations. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage operational priorities, support change initiatives, and effectively apply human resource policies and collective agreements. Effective communication, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Formal leadership or management education. Experience leading quality improvement initiatives, accreditation activities, & laboratory projects involving new technologies, methodologies, equipment, or process implementation. Experience in workforce planning, scheduling, fiscal responsibility, & resource management. Experience working in a unionized environment. Experience in change management, strategic planning, & continuous improvement initiatives.
