The Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta South Region believes in supporting individuals, groups, and committees to enhance their mental wellness and to advocate for those coping with mental illness. We endeavour to protect and promote mental wellness, promote the best possible care, treatment, and rehabilitation of the mentally ill, promote research into causes, treatments, and prevention of mental illness and to continue to advocate regarding mental illness.

Program Information

Stepping Away is a collaborative program between Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta South Region, Recovery Alberta, Lethbridge Polytechnic, Victoria Park High School and the Lethbridge School Division. The aim of the program is to provide students with an alternative route to achieve credits towards a Standard Diploma or K&E Certificates and to provide them with an introduction to the trades.

Position Summary

The Stepping Away Program Coordinator works collaboratively with Victoria Park Teachers and Lethbridge Polytechnic Instructors to ensure quality delivery of the Stepping Away Program. The Program Coordinator is responsible for oversite of the program, completing all required documentation to the standards of accreditation and communicating with program partners. Additionally, this position is responsible for scheduling access to the additional sites that Stepping Away utilizes (Interfaith Food Bank and B&G Club) throughout the semester and delivering Leadership, Character and Social Response course material to the students.

Hours of Work: Part Time - 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8am – 12pm. Some evening or weekend work as required.

Start Dates: September 1st to December 24th & February 1st to June 1st

Reporting to: Program Operations Lead

Starting Wage Range: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour

Essentials Duties & Responsibilities

Day to day program operations, including participation in program, communication with students, staff, program and community partners, documentation, data collection
Supervision of all students in collaboration with the Victoria Park Staff
In consultation with the Leadership Team, field questions, concerns, and resolve any conflicts that may arise during program operation
In consultation with Victoria Park School Staff, communicate with guardians
Provide supports to students as identified in their Individual Service Plan, or as identified by the student, by Victoria Park staff, by Recovery Alberta staff or by Lethbridge Polytechnique instructors
Collaborate with Victoria Park Staff, Polytechnique Instructors & Polytechnique Youth Initiatives Program, to ensure all practices and guidelines are followed for the program
Conduct a daily review of students, including: scheduled activities for the day, current projects status, progression of Individual Service Plan, attendance, etc.
Consult with Lethbridge Polytechnique Youth Initiatives Team regarding any concerns and/or any adjustments to the shop schedules, or any concerns with or from instructors
Complete all documentation for the program as outlined by CMHA procedure and within program timelines
Complete and submitIncident Reports for the program as outlined by CMHA procedure and within program timelines
Daily ETO entry on all relevant program information and data
Complete and submit all reporting for the program, daily, monthly, quarterly, annually as outlined by CMHA procedure and within program timelines
Attend meetings as required

Education & Experience

Undergraduate degree in relevant field or comparable experience.
Experience working with vulnerable populations
Experience working with high-risk populations
Knowledge and experience in harm reduction strategies, crisis intervention, and motivational interviewing
Experience working with a variety of addiction and mental health services and supports across the continuum of care

Conditions of Employment

Current First Aid CPR
Current and clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (Less than 6 months old)
Current Youth Intervention Check (Less than 6 months old)
Possession of a valid Alberta Driver’s license
Must own or have access to reliable vehicle

Pay: $25.00-$27.00 per hour
