The Fort McKay expansion is providing opportunities for 2* NEW Welding Estimators*.
The Job:
Welding Estimators are responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for welding and fabrication projects. This role involves analyzing project specifications, interpreting drawings, estimating materials and labour requirements, and preparing proposals to support competitive and profitable bids.
A strong technical welding knowledge combined with proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and PowerPoint) is essential for preparing reports, analysis, and client-facing presentations.

Work at the Heart of Canada’s Energy Sector
Based in the Alberta Oil Sands (Fort McMurray/Wood Buffalo Region), you’ll work a 14 on/14 off rotation, in a safety-first environment. Shifts are 12 hours long, starting at 6:45.
As a Welding Estimator, you will be expected to:
Safety:
- Adhere to, promote, and enforce all company, contractual, legislated, and client safety initiatives, project estimation, and analysis including:
Project Estimation and Analysis:
- Review equipment repair scopes, technical drawings, and work orders for heavy haul trucks, dozers, shovels, and other large mining equipment.
- Determine welding requirements, materials, consumables, and workforce needed for shop and field-based work in Oil Sands conditions.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates including labor, equipment, parts, subcontractor services, and overhead.
- Ensure compliance with CSA, OH&S, and client safety standards while factoring in site-specific conditions.
- Track actual vs. estimated costs to improve forecasting accuracy over time.
Bid Proposal and Development:
- Prepare detailed, professional proposals for client review (Syncrude, Suncor, CNRL, Fort Hills, etc.).
- Work closely with supervisors, management and procurement to ensure estimates align with operational capabilities.
- Provide cost breakdowns, value-added options, and risk considerations to management and clients.
Reporting & Communication:
- Excel: Build and manage cost models, benchmarking sheets, and comparative analysis tools.
- PowerPoint: Create professional presentations to communicate estimates, justifications, and project outcomes to clients and leadership.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, tradespeople, and leadership to ensure alignment on project expectations.

What We Need From YOU:
- A desire to make a difference and take pride in your work
- A minimum of 2 years of experience estimating welding or heavy equipment repair work; Oil Sands experience is preferred
- Knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, GTAW) and heavy equipment repair
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and OEM manuals.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Excel (spreadsheets and cost models) and PowerPoint (presentations)
- Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and good with numbers
- Able to work under pressure in a demanding environment and meet tight deadlines
- Strong commitment to safety and quality of work
- Strong ethics and compliance with rules and regulations
- Collaborative communication style at all levels of the organization, demonstrating an open, honest, and consistent approach to working with others
- Excellent Customer Service skills
As part of our Hiring Process, YOU will be asked to:
- Provide a minimum of a Class 5 Driver's License and a clean Driver's Abstract
- Provide a criminal record check

- Complete a fitness evaluation related specifically to your position
