Childrens Care - PMDU

The primary focus of this Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) position in the PMDU will be the care and management of paediatric patients and families within an ambulatory care setting. This position will work collaboratively with physicians, PMDU staff members and other health team members to provide coordinated, comprehensive care. The successful candidate will be skilled in anticipating changes, planning, assisting and implementing clinic procedures (ie: venipuncture) while also ensuring the smooth, timely and efficient management of clinics.

Regular Part-Time
Rate of Pay: $37.10 per hour - $37.77 per hour

Part-time employees receive a percentage in lieu of vacation and benefits, providing additional compensation on top of regular wages

Hours of work: No guarantee of hours

Part-time employees will have the opportunity to pick up additional shifts based on unit operational needs and availability

Qualifications

Current Certificate of General Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
Minimum one (1) year recent, related nursing experience in paediatric care setting
Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated clinical competence in paediatric patient assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and response of patient care needs
Demonstrated expertise and competency in paediatric venipuncture
Demonstrated competency in safe medication administration, including injectable and intravenous medications and weight based/drug calculations
Venipuncture expertise on Paediatric patients
Recent experience in an Ambulatory Clinic preferred
Demonstrated experience/active participation in patient education/program development
Proficient keyboarding skills
Demonstrated proficiency with processing and transporting specimens for lab testing
Knowledge of patient care areas and associated services
Excellent assessment skills together with a demonstrated aptitude for patient teaching
Ability to recognize own feelings, express them fully and constructively manage own feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations
Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way
Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships
Ability to stay effective and resilient when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands
Ability to demonstrate an optimistic disposition toward new experiences and change in general
Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values
