Full job description

Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head Baker to work alongside our pastry chef/bakery manager. This is the first time in four years that we are hiring for this position so we are looking for a long term employee to join us. :)

This position is full-time, permanent and shifts run from Monday-Friday with the occasional Saturday shift once training is complete. Some shifts will begin at 4:00AM, so a reliable method of transportation is required.

Responsibilities

Assist the pastry chef/bakery manager in leading the bakery team in preparing, baking, and decorating a wide variety of baked goods, including sourdough bread and laminated pastries.
Oversee all aspects of food handling, ensuring compliance with food safety standards and proper sanitation practices.
Assisting in managing daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, packaging and inventory control.
Maintain organization and rotation in walk-ins, freezers, and dry storage.
With time, train new staff on baking procedures & food safety protocols
Ensure consistent quality of products through meticulous attention to detail during baking and presentation.
Collaborate with management on recipe testing/development, menu planning, seasonal offerings, and special event preparations to enhance customer experience.

Requirements

2 years experience in baking at a small bakery similar to ours, with a strong background in sourdough bread and laminated pastry
Must thrive with early morning shifts and fast paced environment
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team in a fast-paced environment when the pastry chef and owner are away
Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper food handling techniques.
Skilled in cooking techniques related to baking, pastry arts, and savoury options
Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and hygiene.
The ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift heavy items such as bins of dough, racks of treats, bags of flour etc
Familiarity with packaging processes for baked goods to ensure freshness during delivery or retail display.
Strong communication skills
Food Handlers Certificate a bonus

Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 33.0 – 37.0 per week
