Who we are searching for:
We are looking to add a Fire Protection Engineer, who shares the above core values, to our work family. With support from our robust internal training program and existing team, you will review drawings and hydraulic calculations, conduct system analyses, and also assist operations as required by conducting periodic site surveys and field inspections at ongoing projects across Ontario and elsewhere in Canada. You will work primarily from your home office, but as noted above, this role will require occasional travel to our head office in St. Thomas, ON and possibly throughout Canada for both work and training.
Our industry is very rewarding, but is also extremely fast paced. What you will work on:
- Review and seal completed design documents (drawings and calculations) and completion letters;
- Provide technical support, value-added and constructability design evaluation, mentorship and continual developmental coaching to all team members;
- Work closely with all stakeholders, including the PFC team, fire protection contractors, general contractors, architects, consultants, building owners, local building officials, and fire inspectors to ensure the continued success of all projects;
- Manage the field review process and personnel to ensure adequate completion of all field review inspections and the receipt of all completion documentation for each project from the installation contractor;
- Using HydraCAD (for AutoCAD and / or Revit) and HydraCALC, you will design fire protection systems per project and code requirements, along with company and industry standards to keep your skills sharp;
- You will conduct pre-design site surveys to both gather information and examine the condition of existing systems for design specifications, drawings, and calculations;
- You will conduct installation inspections of both in-progress and completed projects to ensure conformance with project and code requirements, as well as company and industry standards;
- Depending on your experience and current abilities, you may be tasked with other duties as appropriate;
What you need to bring:

- A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (mechanical, fire protection, or construction);
- The ability to become registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, and other provinces throughout Canada as required;
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and / or Revit as well as Microsoft Office, and Google Drive / Sheets;
- Experience in the construction industry;
- Experience in a management or supervisory role;
- An ability to read and interpret technical documents from all construction disciplines;
- A proven ability to prioritize, problem solve, be organized, and communicate clearly in a dynamic working environment;
- A proven ability to work successfully in both a remote and team environment; the fire protection industry is fast paced, therefore the ability to meet deadlines working remotely is critical;
- A valid drivers license; and
- The ability to travel to jobsites throughout Ontario and Canada;
The following are strong assets but not a requirement:
- Previous design and / or engineering experience in fire protection;
- A knowledge and understanding of NFPA 13, NFPA 13R, NFPA 13D, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, NFPA 30, NFPA 33, as well as the NBC / OBC and NFC / OFC; and
- Proficient in the use of HydraCAD, HydraCALC, and Bluebeam;
