Position Overview
Microserve is seeking a hands-on, commercially minded Vice President, Finance to join our senior leadership team. This is a high-impact opportunity for a senior finance leader who wants to help shape the next stage of maturity for a respected Western Canadian technology company.
Reporting to the President, the VP Finance will lead the finance and accounting function, strengthen financial discipline and insight, and help senior leaders make better decisions through clearer reporting, stronger forecasting, and practical commercial analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Leadership & Reporting
- Lead the finance and accounting function as a member of the senior leadership team, ensuring strong financial stewardship, reliable reporting, and practical support for company planning and decision-making.
- Oversee core accounting operations, including month-end close, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit and collections, and related financing processes.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and useful financial reporting that helps leaders understand performance, risks, opportunities, and required actions.
- Coach and develop the controller and finance team, strengthening reporting discipline, ownership, controls, and overall capability.
Controls, Risk, Cash & Compliance
- Strengthen internal controls, financial policies, approval processes, and compliance practices to safeguard company assets and support disciplined operations.
- Oversee tax compliance, audit preparation, insurance renewals, and related reporting requirements, working effectively with external advisors as needed.
- Identify and address financial, operational, and compliance risks, ensuring practical improvements are implemented to reduce exposure.
- Oversee payroll-related financial processes and controls, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, confidentiality, and appropriate coordination with people and operations leaders.
- Manage banking relationships, liquidity planning, cash flow, working capital, collections, credit practices, and payment controls to maintain a strong and flexible financial position.
FP&A, Commercial Insight & Decision Support
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, margin analysis, and business performance reporting, with a focus on building more forward-looking insight over time.
- Strengthen margin, profitability, and pricing analysis to help leaders understand the financial impact of service delivery models, resource assumptions, and commercial decisions.
- Improve management reporting so financial information is timely, useful, and decision-oriented.
- Use financial analysis to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and operational issues, and communicate recommendations clearly to senior leaders.
- Partner with People & Culture, Operations, Sales, and Service Delivery to connect workforce, productivity, capacity, and financial data into practical insights that support better planning and resource allocation.
Systems, Process Improvement & Team Leadership
- Improve finance systems, reporting tools, processes, and management information so the function becomes more accurate, efficient, proactive, scalable, and insight-driven.
- Lead, coach, and develop the finance and accounting teams, setting clear expectations and fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, service, and continuous improvement.
- Help evolve the finance function from primarily accounting-focused support toward stronger forecasting, business insight, and decision support.
Qualifications and Experience
- CPA designation strongly preferred; equivalent senior finance leadership experience may be considered for an exceptional candidate.
- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive senior finance leadership experience, ideally in a mid-sized or larger organization with meaningful operational complexity.
- Strong foundation in accounting, reporting, controls, tax, audit, treasury, risk management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Proven ability to lead finance teams, set clear expectations, build capability, and improve performance.
- Demonstrated ability to make financial information more timely, useful, and decision-oriented for non-financial leaders.
- Commercial mindset, with experience supporting pricing, profitability, contracts, working capital, and operational decision-making.
- Experience improving finance systems, reporting tools, processes, and controls; experience in technology, services, distribution, or project-based environments is an asset.
- Excellent judgment, discretion, communication skills, and ability to explain financial information clearly.
- High integrity, professionalism, and ability to operate effectively as part of a senior leadership team.
Compensation: The company’s philosophy is to compensate the ideal candidate for what value and experience they will bring to role and the company, regardless of posted range. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and overall alignment with the requirements of the role. In accordance with British Columbia’s Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000. In addition, the total compensation package includes eligibility for performance bonuses, paid time off, and a comprehensive benefits program.
