NWI Precision specializes in high-precision machining of helicopter masts, turbine shafts, engine thrust links, and nuclear pressure vessel components for the aerospace and nuclear industries worldwide. Operating from a 120,000 sq. ft. facility at 9 Fenmar Drive in Toronto, our dedicated team is committed to delivering the highest quality products to specifications and on time. NWI is currently seeking a Drill Machinist to join their team.
The Manual Drilling Machinist is responsible for creating quality parts produced on manually controlled machines such as Deep Hole Drilling, Gun drilling and ejector drilling machines and equipment according to company plans, blueprints, and other diagrams.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reading blueprints or job orders for product specifications: dimensions, tolerances, tooling instructions, fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, sequence of operations, and positioning of tools
- Communicates with supervisor, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues
- Setup and operation of conventional drilling machines.
- Able to interpret written work procedures
- Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment
- Ensuring that parts are created in a timely manner according to the schedule provided, and according to the quality standards of the organization
- Verify dimensions of machined part or tooling using micrometres, verniers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, or other specialized measuring instruments
- Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor
- Assists with Quality Control
- Cross train to learn other types of machinery to have multiple skills
- Performing other duties as required by the Supervisor
JOB EXPECTAIONS:
- Be on time every day with tolerance +/- 2 minutes
- Never miss work without have booked PTO and approved by manager/supervisor
- Keep your workstation very clean and tidy and response the FOD rules
- Keep in your workstation only what is needed for the day or the week. Everything else has to go into a cabinet
- Keep the floor clean around your workstation at all time
- Stamp every operation you complete properly as per protocol
- Keep the preventive maintenance records of your equipment always up to date
- Check and inspect daily your workstation for any hazard
- Wear your PPE at all time at your workstation (minimum requirements, gloves, safety glasses and safety shoes)
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED required
- ·Certificate or general machinist knowledge in the areas of lathe, drilling, milling and/or manual machinist.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:
- Must have minimum 2 years’ experience operating manually controlled machines such as gun drilling and ejector drill.
- Knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with a good understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensions.
- Good knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Skill in the operation of machine tools and the use of precision measuring devices.
- Ability to apply machinist craft techniques, processes and principles.
- Able to work under pressure.
- Ability to troubleshoot any problems that might come up while operating the machine.
- Ability to select cutting tools, read blueprints, specifications, manuals and work procedures.
- Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
- Ability to lift up to a maximum of 50 lbs.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
