ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE FIELD TECHNICIAN
REPORTS TO: PROGRAM LEADER
WORK LOCATION: Client Work Sites throughout Ontario. Field projects may occasionally require staying out-of-town during the work week and working evenings or weekends, particularly for spills, and projects that span multiple days (travel expenses will be covered).
COMPENSATION: $70-78k, commensurate with experience. Health Benefits, Bonus Plan.
BlueFrog is a boutique environmental consulting firm located in Oakville, ON. We are seasoned geoscientists, engineers, and environmental scientists with stellar credentials in the environmental and earth sciences, and seeking an Environmental Science Field Technician to join our team.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Field Technician will focus on execution of field operations with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, and compliance with procedures. The Technician will work independently as well as with contractors performing monitoring, sampling, and site investigations, principally at active and vacant industrial properties, as well as on public properties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Soil sampling during drilling, test pitting and excavation activities
- Conducting Designated and Hazardous Substance Surveys
- Monitoring and groundwater sampling utilizing a wide variety of equipment
- Supervising drillers, excavators and other contractors
- Operation of various types of equipment (e.g., GPS, data loggers, survey level, combustible gas meters, etc.)
- Completion of field documentation such as job safety analysis (JSA) forms, project field reports, field notes, monitoring and chain-of-custody forms
- When not in the field, assisting with project reporting tasks (e.g., assist with writing sections of reports, data tables, etc.)
- Working collaboratively with project coordinators/managers, to ensure projects are completed on time and budget
- Other related duties assigned
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in environmental science, geological science, or a related program
- 2+ years’ experience working on typical environmental site assessment (ESA) assignments and responsibilities, including supervising drilling and remediation projects, and collecting groundwater and surface water samples
- Academic and practical experience with soil classification, various drilling methodologies and groundwater sampling methods
- Experience with Designated Substance Surveys
- Additional broad environmental experience (ecological surveys, air and noise assessments, topographical surveys, GIS, water and wastewater sampling, geomorphology, etc.) would be an asset

- Strong client service attitude, responsiveness and sense of urgency
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to travel for occasional multiple day out of town field assignments (with advance notice provided)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract
