Pay Rate: $45.00/Hour - $54.00/Hour
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Occupational Health, Safety, Wellness and Infection Prevention & Control, the Occupational Health Nurse provides leadership and expertise in employee health services, disability management, workplace accommodations, communicable disease management, and health promotion.
The Occupational Health Nurse plays a critical role in supporting employee wellbeing through proactive case management, injury and illness prevention, workplace health surveillance, immunization programs, and safe and timely return-to-work planning.
Working collaboratively with Human Resources, managers, unions, WSIB, healthcare providers, and external partners, the Occupational Health Nurse contributes to a healthy workplace culture that supports employee engagement, safety, and organizational excellence.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; RN in good standing with CNO
- Certification in Disability Management CDMP, CRTWC or equivalent considered an asset
- COHN(C), CDMP, CRTWC, CRSP or related occupational health and safety credentials considered assets.
- 5 years’ experience as an Occupational Health Nurse, preferably in a healthcare setting
- Experience working within a unionized healthcare environment is strongly preferred
- 5 years’ WSIB claims management experience, demonstrated experience managing return to work, modified work, attendance management and accommodation cases
- Current First Aid and BCLS certification
- Familiarity with Communicable disease Surveillance Guidelines
- Experience with outbreak management/working with IPAC and Public Health
- Ability to travel to satellite sites
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation: Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act etc.
- Strong knowledge of The Workplace Safety and Insurance Act
- Strong decision making and problem solving skills required
- Excellent communication, organization and presentation skills
- Sound judgement, high emotional intelligence, ability to build trusting relationships with all stakeholders
- Strong work ethic and good attendance record required
- Ability to work both independently and as a team
Main Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with leadership team, staff, union and HR regarding case management, disability, return to work & accommodations
- Initiate and maintain contact with the injured/absent employee and manage modified work plans
- Provide primary care to workers with occupational/non-occupational illnesses and injuries
- First aid and/or referral to appropriate medical intervention for injured workers
- Manage WSIB claims to all internal and external partners; prepare and submit all require documentation to WSIB; Provide workers with assessment forms to identify fitness to return to work and early return to modified work
- Accountable for gathering, maintaining and reporting statistics regarding WSIB, STD, and LTD
- Educate and offer employees post exposure prophylaxis and/or immunization to protect them from communicable diseases
- Provide fit testing using N95 masks as needed
- Collaborate closely with the Safety Advisor to support workplace injury prevention initiatives, incident investigations, hazard identification, risk assessments, workplace inspections, and organizational health and safety programs. identify trends, recommend corrective actions, and support injury prevention strategies
- Work in partnership with the Safety Advisor, Human Resources, Managers, and Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) members to promote a culture of safety, wellbeing, and continuous improvement across all sites
- Maintain accurate records and statistics on all incidents and present findings to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
- Participate in Workplace Safety Inspections as required
- Participate in WHMIS Program as required
- Educate employees in safe work practices during orientation, in service presentations
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of health records and statistical data
- Maintain and respect confidentiality of workers’ health records and information
- Collaborate with the employee, manager, union, human resources to support a variety of Healthy Workplace programs and initiatives
- Encourage, identify and integrate preventative measures to promote healthy lifestyle
