Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting the optometric practice. This position involves working closely with patients to ensure a smooth experience during their visits, assisting with various clinical tasks, and maintaining accurate medical records.
Duties
- Assist optometrists during eye examinations by preparing patients and conducting preliminary tests.
- Perform vision tests, including visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception assessments.
- Manage patient flow and ensure timely appointments while maintaining a welcoming front desk environment.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care and eyewear options, leveraging retail sales skills to promote optical products.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the examination rooms and waiting areas.
- Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, processing insurance claims, and managing patient inquiries.
- Collaborate with team members to enhance patient care and streamline office operations.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a medical office or optometry setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to eye care is advantageous.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records systems.
- Strong customer service skills with a focus on patient care and satisfaction.
- Retail sales experience is beneficial for promoting optical products effectively.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
- Experience working with pediatric patients is an asset but not required.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Patient Care:
Assisting optometrists with patient examinations, including checking vision, taking medical history, and preparing patients for exams.
Pre-Testing:
Performing basic eye tests and using specialized equipment to measure vision and diagnose eye conditions. Proficient in Visual Fields, Topography OCT, Retinal imaging
Patient Communication:
Answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and confirming appointments. Proficient in OHIP billing and Private insurance billing.
Office Management:
Maintaining a clean and organized examination room, ensuring proper equipment care, and updating patient records.
Customer Service:
Providing excellent customer service and creating a positive patient experience.
Teamwork:
Collaborating with other members of the optometric team to ensure smooth operations.
Requirements:
Education: MUST have an Ontario secondary diploma and/or a diploma or certificate in an optometric assistant program.
Experience: MUST have previous experience in Optometry and/or Ophthalmology.
Skills: Good communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work as part of a team are essential.
