RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
Department / Research Program: RESP

General Duties
The Community Research Liaison -TB Declaration facilitates public consultation sessions for the project developing the “Calls to Action by Nunavimmiut for Eliminating Tuberculosis in Nunavik” (also referred to as “The Nunavik TB Declaration” project), funded through the CIHR project grant “Decolonizing TB Healthcare Through Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit: developing Nunavimmiut-led solutions to the continuing crises of TB and inadequate healthcare in Nunavik”.

As the Community Research Liaison , the job is to facilitate community consultations conducted at Ullivik, or other Montreal-based venues, and to debrief with the team after each consultation to ensure messages were captured.

They will work closely with the co-principal investigators, the Project Manager, and the entire study team, including Nunavik Inuit community partners, and Ullivik partners, to lead the Ullivik and Montreal-area based community consultations in a respectful manner, that advances the project known as the Nunavik TB Declaration.

Standards of performance
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager (Anna Dunn-Suen), and indirect supervision of the principal investigators (Faiz Ahmad Khan, Glenda Sandy) the incumbent:

Leads (facilitates) the Ullivik and Montreal-based consultations on tuberculosis and health that will be used to inform the Nunavik TB Declaration.
Ensures the facilitation follows the format and guidelines and expectations set by the Project Manager.
During facilitation, creates a welcoming environment ensuring people feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, are respected, and demonstrate respect to one another and all staff present as well.
Takes notes during the meetings, and also after the meetings, that accurately reflect the conversations and statements made by participants.
Plays an important role in ensuring documentation of who attends, and logistics of organizing meetings as directed by the Project Manager.
Meets with the Project Manager within 24 to 72 hours after each consultation to discuss how things went, what was said, and transfers written notes.
Contributes to writing of messaging, documents, and summaries related to any work undertaken for the Nunavik TB Declaration.
Supports other team members with logistical aspects of organizing consultations, including but not limited to: identifying places and people to work with to undertake the consultations, holding celebratory events pre/post consultations, and identifying interpreters.
During the consultations, helps to troubleshoot unexpected circumstances that may arise with support of other team members.
Performs other duties (administrative) directly related to the research project as required or assigned by the Project Manager.

Education / Experience

Education: High School/Secondary 5
Other education considered an asset for this position: Post-secondary studies in the fields of health, health management, community engagement or Indigenous studies. Completion of studies at Nunavik Sivunitsavut is considered an asset

Professional Membership: No

Required Skills

Knowledge of French is required;
An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English;
Prior experience in municipal or regional event organizing in Nunavik
Leadership skills: Comfortable with public speaking, with facilitating discussions in public and group settings;
Time management: Adheres to scheduled meetings, ability to schedule different meetings during the week;
Math and budgeting: Track their own hours;
Analytical skills: Needs analytical skills in order to solve problems that come up during a typical work day; provide written summaries of community consultation dialogue.

Status : Temporary Occasional
Pay Scale: $28.00 - $52.01/hour. Commensurate with education and work expérience.
Work Shift: Variable
Work Site: 100% Remote
